There’s a new hair loss compound in early trials that works completely differently than anything you’ve heard of before. Instead of hormones or blood flow, it targets aging “zombie cells” around the follicle that are actively blocking regrowth.

Early lab results are promising, matching or beating finasteride in tissue studies. Human trials for hair loss start later this year.

Not available yet. Not a promise. But definitely one I’m watching closely for you all. 👀

Alopecia areata isn’t just “hair falling out.” It’s your immune system misidentifying your own follicles as a threat. 🧬

For years, our main tools were steroids (still great for smaller patches!). But now JAK inhibitors are changing the game for more widespread cases. Baricitinib was the first FDA-approved option, with others like ritlecitinib and deuruxolitinib not far behind.

That said, I’m never going to sell you on a treatment without the full picture. These medications come with real considerations: infection risk, a newly flagged link to weight gain, and the possibility of relapse if you stop.

And here’s the part that often gets skipped: sleep, smoking, and metabolic health all play a role in how this condition progresses. Hair health is never just about the follicle.

If you’re navigating alopecia areata, you deserve a plan built around YOUR case, not a one-size-fits-all protocol. That’s what I do here at Restore. 💛

I hope the glitter helped everyone to relax and reset a little bit!

Understanding Female Pattern Hair Loss and What You Can Do About It 07/31/2025

As a trichologist, I believe it’s essential to share evidence-based, up-to-date information that truly matters to my clients. Just as important, I strive to present it in clear, simple language everyone can understand. Curious about the latest science and solutions for female pattern hair loss? Understanding Female Pattern Hair Loss and What You Can Do About It Female pattern hair loss (FPHL), or hereditary thinning, affects up to 40% of women by age 50. Claims that biotin will help you grow your hair are quite unfounded and biotin is abundant knowledge our diets. If you are concerned about hair loss, please see a Trichologist and get your blood work done so we know what you are actually deficient in.

This is a common complaint that I hear, and I’m not here to sell you another snake oil product.

Medications and topical products don’t always address the reasons why your hair may be falling out. Treatments for genetic hair loss are going to differ from treatments for alopecia areata. However, there are likely to be treatments, medications, and topical products that can help with multiple hair loss disorders. But, if you are using a DHT blocker for alopecia areata, your chances are high that you won’t see results.

Now, let’s talk about supplements. Hair is the barometer of our health. If our hair starts to shed, there is something else going on in the body. Hair, skin, and nail supplements claim to help strengthen your hair, skin, and nails, but what if your body puts those nutrients towards other body systems that are required for survival? You may not notice a change in your hair. But, it is likely that it helped somewhere else.

This is why I analyze blood work and look at your scalp and hair under a microscope. Doing this helps me better understand your body’s needs so that the recommended treatments and topical products can actually work. I focus on total body health to heal your hair.

One more thing: hair growth takes time, money, and consistency. Good results are when we can see changes within 6 months. Be patient and kind to yourself.
