Toner is a deposit, not a permanent change. It sits on the outside of the hair and it rinses away a little bit with every wash. That is normal and it is not a mistake.
But four things speed it up, and most of them are happening in your house, not in my chair.
Water is usually the biggest one. If you have hard water, the minerals in it deposit onto your hair and pull it warm and dull. It is the same reason your shower door gets spotty.
Heat opens the cuticle and lets tone escape faster. Sun does the same thing, and it does it year round, not only on the hot days.
