Waxing or laser hair removal?
Waxing removes hair from the root for temporary smoothness, while laser hair removal targets the follicle for longer lasting hair reduction.

Why are many laser clinics not safe for dark skin?
Laser hair removal can work effectively on melanin-rich skin. The risk comes when clinics use the same device, wavelength, and settings for every skin tone.
Darker skin contains more melanin, and laser energy is attracted to pigment. With the wrong settings, the laser may heat the skin instead of targeting only the hair follicle. This can lead to burns, irritation, hyperpigmentation, hypopigmentation, or scarring.
The 1064 nm Nd:YAG laser is commonly used for darker skin because it is less absorbed by surface melanin. However, the machine alone does not guarantee safety. Provider training, technique, and treatment settings still matter.
Dark skin does not need to avoid laser hair removal. It needs specialized treatment.
