Grounding is an important aspect of our work as Cranio-sacral therapists. It helps support ourselves and the recipients of this work. People receiving the treatments detect safety cues from another regulated and grounded person and shift out of survival mode because of it.

It’s not about what we say, it’s about what our bodies are communicating beneath conscious awareness.

Cranio-sacral Therapy is a powerful resource for co-regulation and it enhances the body’s natural healing ability, restoring health and integration of body, mind and spirit. It can enhance health in any circumstances - from new born babies to the elderly, from birth patterns, injury, illness, severe trauma, and all the many stresses and strains of life, both physical and emotional, often resolving issues that are not helped by other means. It is a profoundly transformative process.

The College of Cranio-Sacral Therapy (CCST) is the most established college of CST, leading the field in Cranio-Sacral Therapy, with over 40 years’ experience of training Cranio-Sacral Therapists in the UK and internationally. A study published in Science Advances found that cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) flow extends from the central nervous system into peripheral nerves, supporting a more interconnected view of the nervous system.

For Upledger CranioSacral Therapy (CST) practitioners, this research offers interesting scientific context for the relationships among CSF, the meninges, nerve roots, and peripheral nerves.

The study provides valuable insight into how CSF-associated pathways may extend beyond the brain and spinal cord.

September Reflections for CranioSacral Therapists 🍁

September invites us into a season of transition—a reminder that change can create space for renewed awareness, intention, and growth.

For CranioSacral Therapists, it can also be a meaningful time to return to the foundations of the work: listening deeply, following the body’s subtle cues, and approaching each session with curiosity and presence.

May this season inspire continued learning, thoughtful practice, and a deeper appreciation for the body’s natural capacity for movement and balance.

Research supports the benefits of CranioSacral Therapy for chronic low back pain.

In a randomized clinical trial, adults receiving 10 CST sessions over five weeks experienced improvements in pain, disability, depression, and quality of life. The CST group showed significantly greater improvements than sensorimotor training, with benefits continuing at the two-month follow-up.

The CST protocol was based on the work of John E. Upledger and Jon Vredevoogd, making the study directly relevant to Upledger CranioSacral Therapy.

When I read stories like these, I think: “This can be me!” 💚

CranioSacral Therapy can have a meaningful impact not only on the people receiving the work, but also on the practitioners learning how to bring it into their lives, families, and practices.

The experiences shared by our students and practitioners remind us why this work matters. Growth. Connection. New possibilities. And the opportunity to help others in a deeply meaningful way.

Could CranioSacral Therapy be part of your story, too?
