Enjoying some peaceful reflection time this morning. Our western way of life can be so very frantic and unpredictable these days. I find myself getting wrapped up in the basic survival mode of how to make things work on a simple day to day basis. Feeling like I need to work more or do something productive that can relate to work so I can generate a living. It can be so very exhausting. Just sitting on the computer or phone working but then getting distracted and mentally burned out. So last night I made a point to meditate before bed and read instead of watch a video which is so easy to do. Then fell asleep at 9 and slept till 7. Had a great morning meditation and workout session. Wanting to keep that vibe going with my tea session today.
Anyhow today’s tea of the day is a loose leaf raw Pu’erh from the 1990’s that I get from my friend Sharon in Taiwan. It an exquisite earthy, milky, grounded and warming tea especially for this time of year. I still have two 30 gram packets left and have our 25% sale still going - use code LOYALTY at checkout-

Tea of the day: Yan Yun
Wuyi-style rock oolong
Yan Yun comes from Shin Cheng Farm’s Wild Forest Phoenix Secret Realm, a roughly 40-year-old garden cultivated with minimal intervention. The mature tea trees grow tall, sending their roots deep into the mountain soil, while several cultivars thrive together, including Qingxin, Da Ye, Ruanzhi, Jin Xuan, and Phoenix Native Camellia. Every leaf is carefully picked by hand.
The teas from this garden have a distinctive character, and Yan Yun is a beautiful Taiwanese interpretation of a Wuyi-style rock oolong. It offers a smooth mineral quality, lingering sweetness, and layers of flavor that gradually unfold with each infusion.
Balanced, grounding, and quietly complex, this is a tea to savor slowly as the leaves open and the flavor continues to evolve.
For brewing, use 2–3 grams in a small gaiwan with water just off the boil. Start with a 45-second infusion, then add 20–30 seconds to each subsequent steep, adjusting to taste. The leaves easily give you five or more infusions.
Available in 25-gram and 50-gram pouches. Use code LOYALTY for 25% off.
Every purchase helps support my upcoming trip to Taiwan, where I’ll be tasting and sourcing more teas to share with you. Thank you for being part of this little tea journey.

It's cold and flu season out there, and we all want to do our best to stay healthy, support our bodies, and hopefully move through whatever comes our way with a little more ease.
There are so many wonderful herbal allies we can turn to during this time of year. For me, Elderberry and Reishi mushroom have always been favorites for supporting vitality and nourishing the body through the colder months.
I wanted to share a recent batch of Elderberry Syrup I made, infused with a beautiful combination of locally harvested berries, medicinal mushrooms, roots, and warming spices.
For this batch, I used both Western Reishi and Artist's Conk, two medicinal mushrooms that were ethically wildcrafted here in the Pacific Northwest. The elderberries came from a local organic homestead, along with some aronia berries. I also added locally grown organic rosehips, licorice root, orange peel, cardamom pods, and a few black peppercorns.
I love incorporating warming, aromatic spices into these kinds of formulas. From a traditional herbal perspective, they act as little drivers, helping to move the energy of the plants while bringing warmth and balance to the blend.
To finish it off, I added a little raw wildflower honey, along with tinctures of both Elderberry and Western Reishi for an additional layer of herbal goodness.
What I love about preparations like this is how they bring together so many different herbal allies into one nourishing formula. Something that can be enjoyed as a daily seasonal tonic, while also being a comforting herbal preparation to reach for when you're feeling a little run down.
I've also shared a free, simple Elderberry Syrup recipe for anyone wanting to make their own! It's a great starting point, and you can always experiment by adding medicinal mushrooms, warming spices, or other herbal allies to make it your own.

A little Shiso magic from the garden.
This is such a fun and surprisingly delicious tea to make. Brew fresh Shiso leaves, add a little lemon, and watch the tea transform into a beautiful vibrant pink.
It makes a refreshing alternative to pink lemonade and is especially wonderful on a hot summer day. The color transformation also makes it a fun one to make with kids and a simple way to get them interested in plants, making tea, and enjoying the many gifts nature provides.
I just added the full Shiso Pink Lemonade recipe as a free download.

Sometimes the best tea experiences are the ones you just stumble into.
On my first trip to Taiwan, I wandered into a small tea shop in old Wanhua, felt completely intimidated, and quietly walked back out.
Luckily, something pulled me back a week later.
That return visit turned into an evening drinking 1960s Sheng Pu’erh with the fifth-generation owner, Tsai Xuan-fu, who we affectionately started calling “The Old Man.”
FullDone Tea House dates back to 1845 and is now in its sixth generation. It has become one of those places I look forward to returning to every time I’m in Taiwan.
I wrote a new Substack about stumbling upon FullDone, the people behind it, and why I think this is a tea shop worth seeking out if you find yourself in Taipei.

As the days grow shorter and the weather gets colder, I find myself returning to one of my favorite warming drinks: Cacao, Medicinal Mushrooms, and H**p milk.
There’s something about these three that just works so beautifully together.
While mushroom coffee has become popular, I personally love cacao as the base. It offers a gentler kind of energy, with naturally occurring theobromine and only a small amount of caffeine. Rich, earthy cacao pairs especially well with mushrooms like Reishi and Chaga, creating a deeply satisfying cup for the colder months.
Reishi has a long history of use in traditional Chinese herbalism and is one of my favorite mushroom allies. Through an Ayurvedic lens, I also think of Reishi in the spirit of Rasayana, nourishment that helps cultivate resilience and Ojas, our deeper reserve of vitality.
Chaga brings its own dark, earthy richness and has a long tradition of being prepared as a nourishing tea.
Add a little h**p milk and you have a creamy, grounding drink that has become one of my favorite alternatives to coffee as we move into fall and winter.

Tea of the day: 1996 Yiwu Tong-Qing-Hao
Aged Sheng Pu’erh, loose leaf
Notice the shifting patterns on the surface of the tea. Sometimes called “dragon scales,” they are beautiful to watch as the hot tea rests in your cup. A delicate film forms on the surface, creating patterns that seem to move and change before your eyes. Watching them can be very meditative, a simple invitation to slow down and be present with your tea.
Yiwu is often called the queen of Pu’erh, appreciated for its sweetness, delicate aromatics and softer character. Yiwu teas are generally not bitter or astringent. With age, they can become wonderfully smooth while still carrying a strong cha qi, the felt energy of the tea. This Yiwu has wonderful smoky, aromatic camphor notes, and as you brew it, it develops into a beautiful deep red liquor that is exceptionally smooth and silky. It has the old-forest flavor I love in aged Pu’erh, along with soft leather, camphor and a lovely mineral quality. It’s one of those teas I can sit with for a long time, continuing to steep it again and again.
Friendly reminder: I’m offering 25% off all tea with the code “LOYALTY” to help raise funds for my trip to Taiwan in November

Bellingham and Whatcom County plant people!
Join us in the herbal garden at the Chuckanut Center as we gather together to harvest the abundance of Elecampane that has happily taken over a good portion of our garden.
This is a wonderful opportunity to bring the community together and share in the joy of the harvest while getting to know this beautiful plant from root to medicine.
We’ll begin in the garden, working together to dig and harvest the Elecampane, then clean and prepare the roots. From there, we’ll move inside and make an herbal extract together while diving deeper into all things Elecampane, including its traditional uses, energetics, herbal preparations, and ways you can work with it in your own home apothecary.
This will be a fun, hands-on class where you won’t just learn about Elecampane. You’ll spend time with the living plant, get your hands in the soil, participate in the harvest, and follow the process all the way from freshly dug root to finished herbal preparation.
Come spend the day with the plants and community, and leave with a much deeper connection to Elecampane.
**Space is limited, so reserve your spot for the Elecampane Harvest Workshop through the Linktree in my bio → Eventbrite Workshops.**
