One of the most rewarding parts of leading retreats is hearing how the experience stays with people long after they return home.
Of course, there are beautiful destinations, incredible meals, and unforgettable adventures.
But what matters most are the moments that can’t be scheduled on an itinerary:
The conversations.
The connections.
The laughter.
The perspective shifts.
The feeling of being fully present.
Thank you to everyone who joined us in Italy and trusted Donna Marie Marino, LMFT to guide this experience. The memories, friendships, and moments shared continue to ripple outward long after the journey ends. ❤️
One of the reasons narcissistic or emotionally abusive relationships can be so difficult to recognize is because they aren’t bad all the time.
If they were, most people would leave much sooner.
Instead, there are good days mixed in with the painful ones.
Moments of connection.
Moments of hope.
Moments that make you think:
“Maybe things are changing.”
“If I just explain it the right way…”
“If I just try a little harder…”
Over time, many people find themselves walking on eggshells, second-guessing themselves, and feeling responsible for managing someone else’s emotions.
Not because they’re weak.
Because they’re hopeful.
And because these dynamics are often far more confusing than people realize.
Colleen specializes in helping individuals understand unhealthy relationship patterns, heal from narcissistic abuse, and reconnect with themselves after losing their footing in a difficult relationship.

Most people think peace is something they’ll finally experience once life falls into place.
After the job.
After the relationship.
After the healing.
After life finally feels “under control.”
But what if peace was never meant to be the reward at the end of a perfect life?
In her newest article, Donna Marie Marino explores why true peace has less to do with our circumstances and more to do with how we return to ourselves when life inevitably knocks us off center.
She shares one of her favorite questions to ask clients:
Where can you breathe?
It’s a simple question, but one that can reveal so much about what brings us back to ourselves.
If you’ve been carrying stress, uncertainty, or simply feeling like life has been “a lot” lately, we hope this reflection offers you a moment of perspective.

How to Find Peace When Everything Goes Wrong | Armonía Life Design — Armonía Life Design | Counseling, Wellness Space & Retreats Peace isn't the absence of stress, uncertainty, or hardship. Learn how emotional resilience, nervous system awareness, and self-trust can help you find peace even when life feels overwhelming.
Have you ever found yourself in different relationships that somehow leave you feeling the same way?
Walking on eggshells.
Over-explaining yourself.
Feeling responsible for everyone else’s emotions.
Losing yourself while trying to keep the peace.
Many people assume this happens because they’re making bad choices.
But often, it’s deeper than that.
As Colleen explains, we tend to choose relationships from our wounds.
If you grew up learning that your job was to keep everyone happy, stay hypervigilant, or manage the emotional temperature of the room, those patterns can quietly follow you into adulthood.
Sometimes that can make a narcissistic relationship feel familiar, even when it’s hurting you.
The good news?
Patterns can be healed.
And when you heal the wound, you’re less likely to repeat the cycle.
That’s why recovery from narcissistic abuse isn’t just about understanding what happened.
It’s about reconnecting with yourself so you can build healthier relationships moving forward. 🤍

Most people think peace comes after.
After the problem is solved.
After the uncertainty passes.
After life finally settles down.
But life doesn’t work that way.
There will always be unexpected phone calls, disappointments, losses, conflicts, and moments that knock us off center.
The older I get, the more convinced I become that peace isn’t about avoiding disruption.
Peace is trusting that even when life knocks you sideways, you’ll find your way back.
Not because everything got fixed.
Because you remembered how to come home to yourself.

For many teens and young adults, identity can feel complicated.
Who am I?
Where do I fit?
What matters to me?
What if I’m still figuring it out?
Add social media, constant information, and pressure to define yourself quickly, and it’s easy to see why so many young people feel overwhelmed.
Christina OrtizKing Art Therapist helps clients explore identity in a way that doesn’t begin with labels.
Instead, the focus is on the whole person.
Your values.
Your strengths.
Your experiences.
Your relationships.
What feels authentic to you.
Whether someone is exploring questions around gender, sexuality, or identity more broadly, art therapy can provide a safe space for curiosity, self-expression, and self-discovery.
Because who you are is always bigger than any label. 🎨🤍

Meet Bindi & Bodhi 🐾
Colleen’s tiny therapy sidekicks at Armonía.
Some clients immediately light up when they see them in the waiting room.
Others find comfort in petting them while talking through difficult emotions.
And sometimes, having a warm little dog nearby makes therapy feel just a little safer, softer, and easier to settle into.
The dogs seem to intuitively understand when someone needs closeness and when someone just needs quiet companionship.
Healing can happen in spaces that feel calm, connected, and human — and Bindi & Bodhi are very much part of that at Armonía ✨

One of the reasons covert narcissistic abuse is so difficult to recognize is because it often doesn’t look the way people expect it to.
It’s not always loud, obvious, or outwardly grandiose.
Sometimes it’s subtle.
Confusing.
Slowly destabilizing over time.
Many people describe feeling:
✨ emotionally exhausted
✨ hypervigilant
✨ disconnected from themselves
✨ like “something is wrong” but unable to explain why
And because these dynamics can be so difficult to identify from the outside, people often feel incredibly alone while they’re living through them.
In this reel, Colleen talks about how covert narcissistic abuse impacts identity, nervous system health, and emotional well-being — and why healing takes time.
If this resonates with you, support is available 🤍
