August is when summer feels most alive. ☀️
Gardens overflowing.
Children running barefoot.
Long evenings.
Skin warmed by sunshine, wind, swimming, and life lived outside.
It’s also the season when our skin quietly loses more water than we often realize.
Healthy skin isn’t simply asking for more oils.
It’s asking for hydration, diverse botanical nourishment, and the lipids that help protect everything we’ve restored.
This weekend we’re celebrating the rituals that carry us through the heart of summer.

Somewhere along the way, skincare became another thing we were taught to conquer—as though our skin were a problem waiting to be solved instead of a living part of us, constantly responding to the seasons we live in, the food we eat, the stress we carry, the light we wake to, and the care we offer it.
As a mother, I think about that often. I don’t want my daughters to grow up believing beauty is found in chasing perfection. I want them to understand that healthy skin, like a flourishing garden, isn’t created by force. It grows in an environment of nourishment, diversity, patience, and balance.
That philosophy has shaped every formula we’ve ever created. We don’t believe one ingredient is meant to do everything. Skin needs hydration before moisture, a diversity of botanical compounds, and a balance of fatty acids that work with its own remarkable design rather than against it.
Sunbird was never created to promise perfect skin. It was created to help you care for the skin you’ve been given with ingredients that feel as though they belong there.
If you’ve been longing for skincare that feels less like another thing to fix and more like coming back to what is true, we’d be honored to be part of that journey. 🤍

Every summer, I watch so many people go to war with their skin.
It starts producing more oil, so they cleanse a little more often. They add another exfoliant, another mask, another product that’s meant to “fix” it. Yet somehow, a few weeks later, their skin feels tighter, more reactive, and less like itself.
What if it was never asking to be stripped in the first place?
One of the most common shifts I see this time of year is dehydrated skin. Not skin lacking oil—but skin lacking water.
Before reaching for something stronger, consider whether your skin might simply need more support. Nourish your body well, replenish minerals after long days in the heat, and choose skincare that helps your barrier do what it was beautifully designed to do.
This is exactly why we’ve always believed in simple rituals—gentle cleansing, whole-plant hydrosols, beautiful botanical oils, and a protective veil like Aspenglow whip or Genesis to help the skin hold onto hydration just a little longer.
Because healthy skin isn’t something we force.
More often than not, it’s something we cultivate.

There is something I find incredibly beautiful about the way our skin adapts.
When summer arrives, our skin is asked to do more. It spends long days in the sun, encounters warm winds, moves between dry air conditioning and humid afternoons, and quietly loses more water to the environment than it does during much of the year. Rather than simply giving up, it responds in the only way it knows how—with wisdom. One of those responses is often increased oil production.
For so many of us, that extra oil feels like something to fight. We reach for stronger cleansers, harsher exfoliants, or products that promise to leave our skin feeling completely matte. Yet if our skin is producing more oil because it is trying to protect itself, stripping it further may only deepen the imbalance.
This is one of the reasons I believe we have to understand our skin before we try to correct it.
Dehydrated skin is simply skin that lacks water. Supporting it begins with the foundations: nourishing our bodies with mineral-rich foods, staying well hydrated, prioritizing restorative sleep, and living in rhythm with the natural light around us. These are the things that create resilience from within.
Our skincare then has the privilege of supporting what our bodies are already working to do. Gentle cleansing preserves the barrier instead of disrupting it. Whole-plant hydrosols replenish what the elements have quietly taken away. Thoughtfully crafted botanical oils and protective balms help the skin hold onto hydration and strengthen the remarkable barrier it was designed to maintain.
I have found that the healthiest skin rarely comes from trying to outsmart it. More often, it comes from slowing down, paying attention, and giving it the support it has been asking for all along.
I’d love to hear if you’ve ever experienced this yourself. Has your skin ever felt both oily and dehydrated at the same time?

A simple swap guide for when you choose supportive skin care 🥀
Human tendency is to rush, force, and “correct”….but when we support nature, it flourishes.
Every topical or treatment offered today has an alternative option-it only requires deeper work. A look at what’s beneath the skin and a dedication to supporting your magnificent barrier in a way that allows it to do what it already knows how to do. Often times isolated or synthetic ingredients stop this natural process from taking place. Try some of the swaps mentioned in this guide and let me know what changes you notice!
