Removing blue ink from darker skin tones is one of the more technically challenging parts of laser tattoo removal.

Why?

Blue pigment often requires a different wavelength than black ink. But in skin with more melanin, some of the wavelengths used to target blue can also be absorbed more readily by the surrounding pigment in the skin.

That means the goal isn’t simply to “hit the blue harder.”

The challenge is breaking down the tattoo pigment while minimizing unnecessary injury to the surrounding skin — and reducing the risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation or hypopigmentation.
This is where wavelength selection, fluence, treatment spacing, skin assessment, and the experience of the laser specialist become extremely important.
