"It's an incredibly painful treatment."

We know the name doesn't help. "Peel" sounds a lot more intense than the actual sensation, since light and medium peels typically feel like a mild, warm tingling or stinging, similar to a brief sunburn sting. Uncomfortable for a moment, maybe. Agonizing? Not even close.

This is one of the most common reasons people put off trying a peel, and it's almost always based on picturing something far more dramatic than what actually happens.

Up next: are peels only for anti-aging purposes?

"Peels thin out your skin."

The opposite is actually true. Done correctly, peels stimulate collagen production and help strengthen your skin's structural matrix, building it up rather than breaking it down.

Where the myth comes from is real, though: over-exfoliating, or using a peel that's too aggressive or too frequent for your skin type, can genuinely damage the skin barrier over time. That's a matter of technique, strength, and frequency, not a property of peels themselves. Used properly and at the right cadence, the effect runs the other direction entirely.

Next up: does it actually hurt?

"The more you peel, the better."

Here's the thing: If your skin isn't visibly peeling in sheets after a treatment, that doesn't mean it didn't work.

Many superficial and cellular-level peels exfoliate dead skin cells effectively with little to no visible flaking. The results show up in skin texture and tone over the following days and weeks, not in how much comes off right away.

The dramatic, visible peeling people often picture is usually associated with deeper, more intensive treatments, but that doesn't mean it's a universal marker of whether a peel "worked."

Follow along this week as we work through 5 of the most common peel myths in our new series, The Real Peel.

Your skin changed. Here's the routine that actually matches it.

Cleanse & Balance: removes the day's buildup without over-stripping. Cooler, drier air makes skin more sensitive to harsh cleansing than it is in summer, so this step is about balance, not just removal.

Exfoliate & Renew: cell turnover slows down as temperatures drop, which is part of why skin can start looking duller heading into fall. A little more attention here helps keep that renewal on track.

Hydrate & Repair: seals in what the first two steps just did, before drier outside air has a chance to pull moisture back out.

If something that worked all summer suddenly feels like it's not doing enough, you're not imagining it.

Lower humidity and cooler air genuinely change what skin needs. What worked in July can start to feel thin or insufficient by October.

We'll be walking through some of those specific fall adjustments over the next few weeks. For now: what's the first thing you're already changing in your routine this season? Tell us below.

Happy first day of fall! ๐Ÿ‚

As the season shifts, so does what your skin actually needs.

With the cooler air and lower humidity, some routines can stop working as well as they did in August.

Before we get into specifics over the next few weeks, we want to hear from you directly: what would you want your skin to look like by December?

Drop it below. We're personally invested in helping you get there, and your answers help shape what we cover next.

How are they different?

Advanced Repair Moisturizer is the heavier, more occlusive option - it seals hydration in and helps protect your barrier once the air outside turns drier and colder. It's usually the better call on windy days, if your skin runs dry heading into fall, or when your barrier needs extra support (like after a peel).

Hydra Plump Hyaluronic Serum works differently - it draws moisture into the skin rather than sealing it in, so it feels lighter and layers well under makeup or under whatever moisturizer you're already using. It's usually the better call if your skin is combination or normal and just needs a hydration boost without extra weight.

Plenty of people land on one or the other. Plenty of people use both - serum first to draw moisture in, moisturizer after to lock it in.

Here's what's actually happening under the surface when you apply Glycolic acid.

It works on the "glue" holding dead skin cells together on the surface. Loosen that, and skin sheds more evenly instead of building up dull, rough patches.

Has this changed how you think about it? Let us know below.
