👂 MIDDLE EAR DISEASE: What’s Happening Behind Your Eardrum?

Your ears do more than help you hear—they also play an important role in your balance and overall quality of life!

At Broward ENT Services, we diagnose and treat a variety of middle ear conditions that can affect your hearing and ear health.

🔎 Common Middle Ear Conditions Include:

🔹 Otitis Media: Infection or inflammation of the middle ear that may cause pain, pressure, and hearing difficulties.

🔹 Middle Ear Effusion: Fluid buildup behind the eardrum that can cause muffled hearing, fullness, and pressure, even without an active infection.

🔹 Eustachian Tube Dysfunction (ETD): Difficulty equalizing pressure in the middle ear, leading to popping, clogged ears, and discomfort.

🔹 Tympanic Membrane Retraction: When the eardrum becomes pulled inward due to negative middle ear pressure. Severe cases can lead to structural damage or retraction pockets.

🔹 Cholesteatoma: An abnormal collection of skin cells in the middle ear that can progressively damage surrounding structures and affect hearing.

🔹 Chronic Otitis Media: Persistent or recurrent middle ear inflammation or infection that may lead to hearing loss and other complications.

📸 REAL PATIENT IMAGES FROM OUR OFFICE!

The images featured in this post demonstrate abnormal eardrum findings encountered in clinical practice. These are actual otoscopic images captured during examinations at Broward ENT Services.

⚠️ Signs You Shouldn’t Ignore:
• Persistent ear pain or pressure
• Muffled hearing or hearing loss
• Recurrent ear infections
• Ear drainage
• Ringing in the ears (tinnitus)
• Dizziness or balance difficulties

💛 Early Detection Can Protect Your Hearing!

Not all middle ear conditions cause significant pain. Some develop gradually and may go unnoticed until hearing becomes affected.

If you’re experiencing persistent ear symptoms, an ENT evaluation can help identify the underlying cause and determine the appropriate treatment.

👂 Cholesteatoma: A Hidden Threat to Your Hearing

A cholesteatoma is an abnormal collection of skin cells that can develop behind the eardrum. Although it is not cancer, it can continue to grow and potentially damage the delicate structures of the middle ear.

The image in this post is an actual clinical example seen in our practice, giving you a real look at what a cholesteatoma can look like.

Symptoms may include persistent or recurrent ear drainage, repeated ear infections, hearing loss, ear pressure or fullness, pain, and sometimes dizziness or balance problems.

Early diagnosis matters. If you’re experiencing ongoing ear symptoms or changes in your hearing, an ENT evaluation can help identify the cause and determine the appropriate treatment.

👃 Constant congestion that just won’t go away? Nasal polyps could be contributing.

Nasal polyps are soft, noncancerous growths that develop within the nasal passages or sinuses. When they become large or numerous, they can interfere with airflow and contribute to ongoing sinus symptoms.

Common symptoms may include:
• Persistent nasal congestion
• Reduced sense of smell or taste
• Postnasal drip
• Facial pressure or fullness
• Recurrent sinus infections
• Difficulty breathing through the nose

Treatment depends on the individual and may include medical therapy, biologic medications for appropriate patients, or minimally invasive procedures to improve nasal airflow and sinus drainage.

✨ Breathe freely again. If chronic congestion or sinus problems are affecting your daily life, an ENT evaluation can help identify the cause and determine the right treatment approach for you.

🔔 Ringing. Buzzing. Hissing. Humming.
Tinnitus can sound different for everyone—and it can affect one or both ears.

Tinnitus is the perception of sound when no external sound is present. While it can be frustrating, identifying possible contributing factors is an important first step toward finding relief.

Common factors associated with tinnitus may include hearing loss, noise exposure, ear conditions, Eustachian tube dysfunction, TMJ or neck conditions, and certain medications.

At Broward ENT Services, we can evaluate your ears and hearing, investigate potential underlying causes, and develop a treatment plan based on your individual needs.

✨ Don’t let the noise go unexplained. Schedule an evaluation today.

A thyroid nodule doesn’t always mean surgery. 💛

Thyroid Radiofrequency Ablation (RFA) is a minimally invasive, image-guided treatment that uses controlled thermal energy to reduce certain thyroid nodules—without removing the thyroid gland.

✨ Why patients may consider Thyroid RFA:
• Minimally invasive
• No large surgical incision
• Preserves healthy thyroid tissue
• Typically performed without general anesthesia
• Minimal downtime
• Can help improve pressure, swallowing, and cosmetic symptoms caused by an enlarged nodule

Not every thyroid nodule is appropriate for RFA. A complete evaluation, including ultrasound and appropriate biopsy when indicated, is important to determine the best treatment option.

Your voice tells a story. 🎙️ But when hoarseness or voice changes persist, your vocal cords may be trying to tell you something.

This real endoscopic view shows how a vocal cord lesion can affect the appearance and function of the vocal cords. Lesions may be associated with voice overuse, reflux, irritation, smoking, allergies, or other underlying conditions.

⚠️ Don’t ignore persistent voice changes. If you experience hoarseness, vocal fatigue, throat discomfort, or a change in your voice lasting more than 2 weeks, an ENT evaluation can help determine the cause.

Early evaluation matters. Protect your voice. Know what’s going on.
