If you've ever come into the salon and ask for highlights before then you understand the process. Your stylist will mix up some lightner (Otherwise known as bleach even though it's not but we'll get into that later) and apply it to your hair in sections on a foil. The lightner we use is comprised of a powder or cream with hydrogen peroxide. When we make a permanent change to the hair (meaning changing the hair chemically) we use hydrogen peroxide to open the cuticle of the hair to either remove or add pigment. This is what we use in permanent color, lightener, and even toners. Sun-ins main ingredients are hydrogen peroxide and lemon juice as well as some moisturizing ingredients. On the perfect blonde hair without any damage or build up this could give you some brighter results. For anyone that's tried it, including me when I was younger, you'll usually end up with a brassy orange blonde that is brightest on the top of your head. For some this can be what you're looking for- but for most it ends up being more of a hassle then going to the salon. A few weeks ago I was contacted by a mom that had used sun in on herself as well as her daughter. She wanted a more even canvas that would suit her better. After giving her a result that is much more comfortable for her she asked if I could help with her daughter's hair as well (If you look back a couple posts you can see they have the same amazing eyes). I've never had anyone sit as well in my chair at her age as she did. As you can see in the picture there was some damage from the process of the Sun in and some uneven tones. We did a full color melt and acidic bonding concentrate treatment to bring back some softness and manageability and have a more even tone. Going to the salon for some is a luxury and I as a stylist acknowledge that. In my opinion it's not my job to shame anyone for what they've used on their hair or what their hair history contains, whether it's box dye or at home lightening. What is my job, again in my opinion, is to offer solutions for those in need.

I love doing vivids! But what do they really cost?

Mostly time! This girl and spent about 12 hours together on our first session. We started with what her hair could handle until we got to these beautiful bright ends and colorful roots. Every touch up session took about 4 or 5 hours.

Vivids usually require us to get you as blonde as possible and then going back in and doing the color application. We even schedule time to break for lunch!

Bright reds can be so hard to remove and can take a ton of time. Adding some cool and natural tones can make the process so much easier!
