Do you remember the thunderstorm two days ago and the extraordinary, almost Aurora Borealis–like glow that stretched across the evening sky in every direction?
Just minutes before a severe thunderstorm, tiny biting gnats can become especially aggressive. One bite on the eyelid — and within minutes, a sharp needle-like pain, burning sensation, and significant swelling can develop.
Here is my personal recovery experience over the next 12 hours.
1. Don’t Panic
The calmer we stay, the less stress the body experiences.
Do not scratch or rub the area, as this can introduce infection and worsen irritation.
2. Cold Compress
During the first few hours, this is the most important remedy.
• Ice wrapped in a cloth
• Chilled gel eye masks or cooling eye pads
• Frozen cotton pads soaked in water or a mild chamomile solution
3. Baking Soda Compress
Mix ½ teaspoon of baking soda in ½ cup of water.
Soak a cotton pad and apply it to the affected area for 5–10 minutes at a time. This can help reduce itching and burning.
4. Arnica
An arnica gel may be gently applied around the swollen area to help minimize bruising and reduce puffiness.
5. Turmeric
Warm water with turmeric or cooled turmeric tea may help support the body’s natural anti-inflammatory processes.
6. Lymphatic Drainage Massage
Only after the sharp pain and intense burning have subsided.
Using very gentle movements, massage from the inner corner of the eye toward the temples and then down the neck to encourage lymphatic drainage.
7. Drink More Warm Water
Staying well hydrated may help the body reduce swelling more efficiently.
8. Sleep with Your Head Elevated
A higher pillow can help prevent excess fluid from accumulating around the eyes overnight.
In my case, the severe swelling began to noticeably decrease after about 10 hours, and my face was almost back to normal the following day.
VERY IMPORTANT
If swelling spreads to the lips, tongue, or throat, or if you experience shortness of breath, dizziness, worsening vision, or any signs of a severe allergic reaction, seek immediate medical attention.
🤓 A tiny gnat reminds us how remarkable the human body is: yesterday my eye was nearly swollen shut, and today all that’s left is a story—and a beautiful sky before the storm. 🌅🦟

I would think the best gift will be Surprise local trip to historical locations ,Theatre ticket, beautiful hikes with launch at local restaurant.
New sunglasses and hat and maybe the best art brushes for painting .
This day is not only about giving to others.
It’s also about giving back to yourself.

For me, it’s a wonderful confirmation of the philosophy I’ve practiced in skincare for over 25 years: supporting the skin naturally rather than over-treating it.
