The Pamper Cottage
A private boutique skincare studio in downtown Greenville offering professional facials and advanced skin treatments in a storybook cottage setting.
Where science meets serenity.
Why on earth does your esthetician need to know what medications you're taking? You're here for a facial, not a physical, right? Well, believe it or not, that little section of your intake form is a lot more important than you might think!
Some medications can change how your skin responds to treatments. Prescription retinoids, certain acne medications, blood thinners, steroids, and some antibiotics can affect things like skin sensitivity, bleeding, healing, or your reaction to specific ingredients and procedures. Even medications that have absolutely nothing to do with skincare can influence what happens on my treatment table.
For example, if you're using tretinoin, I may need to modify your exfoliation or postpone certain treatments. If you're taking a medication that increases your sensitivity to light, that matters when we're considering light-based treatments. And if you're taking a blood thinner, I need to take additional precautions when performing extractions because even minor skin trauma can result in more bleeding than expected. These aren't necessarily reasons you can't enjoy a facial, but they ARE reasons I need to know what I'm working with.
And please don't worry about being judged for what's on your medication list. I'm not interested in why your doctor prescribed something, and I'm certainly not here to second-guess your medical care. My job is to understand how your medications might affect the services I provide so I can make appropriate treatment decisions.
So when I ask you to complete your intake form, I'm not being nosy, and I'm definitely not collecting information just for the fun of paperwork. I'm making sure your treatment is appropriate for YOUR skin, your health considerations, and your individual needs.
There's something strangely satisfying about watching all that gunk come off someone's skin, isn't there? Dead skin cells, oil, and buildup collecting along the edge of a vibrating metal blade. Gross? Maybe. Fascinating? Absolutely!
Meet the ultrasonic skin spatula, one of my favorite tools at The Pamper Cottage. It uses high-frequency vibrations to help loosen dead skin cells, excess oil, and surface debris while assisting with extractions. But don't let those satisfying videos fool you. Everything collecting on that blade isn't necessarily coming out of your pores, and this little gadget can't permanently shrink pores or prevent blackheads.
I love my skincare gadgets, but I don't use them just because they're fun. Your skin analysis determines which tools actually belong in your treatment.

Have you ever wondered why the services at The Pamper Cottage have names like Visits, Escapes, Retreats, and Respites? When I created my menu, I didn't want to simply offer a list of facials and massages organized by how many minutes you spend on the table. I wanted the names to reflect the experience you're coming in for.
A Visit is a little time carved out of your day. An Escape gives you a chance to step away from everything waiting for you outside. A Retreat is an opportunity to settle in for something more substantial. And a Respite? That's a much-needed break from whatever life has been throwing your way. Each one offers something a little different, but they all share the same philosophy: your time at the Cottage belongs to YOU.
But sometimes an hour or two just doesn't feel like enough. That's where **The Cottagekeeper's Sabbatical** comes in. Three glorious hours combining a back facial, a full-body Swedish massage, and a customized facial into one continuous experience along with smoothing hand and foot treatments. No choosing between services, no moving from one appointment to another, and no watching the clock. Just three hours devoted entirely to you. This is a one-of-a-kind experience in the Upstate, at The Pamper Cottage, just for you.
I'm working toward an October 19 launch, pending that pesky government red tape we all know and loathe. I'll share booking details as soon as everything is official. Because sometimes you don't just need a break. You need a whole Sabbatical.

Your skin doesn't need a 12-step routine to be healthy. Somewhere along the way, skincare became a competition to see who could use the most products, layer the most serums, and follow the most complicated routine. I was guilty of that myself during my time in MLM. My leaders gave me information and graphics to sell more more more. Then I went to school and learned better. And now I'm helping you.
Because more products don't automatically mean better skin. For most people, a consistent routine built around cleansing, moisturizing, and daily sun protection is a much better starting point than chasing every new product that shows up on social media. Also, consistency matters! The most expensive serum in the world isn't going to do much for you if it spends six days a week sitting on your bathroom counter while you try out six other trendy new things.
Healthy skin isn't about how many bottles you own. It's about what you're doing for your skin every day. Start with the basics. Cleanser, serum, moisturizer, SPF. Learn what your skin actually needs. Build from there. Not sure what that looks like for you? Reserve your time at https://www.thepampercottageskinstudio.com/appointments and let the Cottagekeeper help.

ROYGBIV. A whole rainbow of glowing masks promising clearer, smoother, younger-looking skin. But can colored light really make a difference, or is it just another flashy skincare trend?
This week on Treatment vs. Trending, we're shedding some light on LED therapy.

I hear it all the time, “Crystal, my skin is so dry.”
Maybe. But it might actually be dehydrated. And yes, there’s a difference. Dry skin lacks oil. Dehydrated skin lacks water.
Dry skin tends to be something you deal with consistently. It may feel rough or flaky, and it often needs products that help replace some of the oils it naturally lacks and support the skin barrier. Dehydration, on the other hand, can happen to any skin type. Yep, even oily skin. Your skin can be producing plenty of oil and still be short on water.
Oil and water are two separate things and you can have any combination of too much or too little of either. Your skin can be dry and hydrated, dry and dehydrated, oily and hydrated, or oily and dehydrated. Knowing which combination you're dealing with matters because they don't all need the same products and treatments.
Dehydrated skin may feel tight, look dull, make fine lines more noticeable, or somehow manage the incredibly rude combination of feeling tight while also getting shiny. And this is one reason I don’t choose your facial based solely on whether you tell me your skin is “dry.” I look at what your skin is actually doing that day, talk to you about what you’ve been experiencing at home, and build your treatment from there.
Treating dehydrated skin as though it’s simply dry, or trying to strip away oil from skin that’s already short on water, may actually take you further from where you want to go. Your skin doesn’t need you to diagnose it before you walk through my door. That part is my job.

A great hydrating product can do plenty on its own. The right product and the right tool together can work even harder. That’s where galvanic current comes in.
Galvanic current sounds much more intimidating than it actually is. It uses a very low-level, continuous electrical current and a little bit of basic science you probably learned in school: like charges repel, and opposite charges attract.
With a technique called iontophoresis, I match the electrical charge to compatible ingredients in the products I’m using. Since like charges repel, the current helps encourage those ingredients into the skin. Basically, instead of putting a product on your skin and saying, “Good luck in there,” I can give the right ingredients a little assistance.
Dry skin doesn't automatically mean I reach for the galvanic electrodes, though. I choose what devices, if any, to use based on your current skin condition, your goals and concerns, the products I’m using, and whether it’s appropriate for you.
Hydration isn’t one product, one ingredient, or one fancy machine. It’s all of those pieces working together.
Come see what your skin and a little science can do together.

You’ve probably heard of hyaluronic acid. It’s in serums, moisturizers, masques, and just about every “dewy skin” routine on the internet. But what exactly is it and what does it actually do for you?
Hyaluronic acid is a humectant, which means it attracts water and helps hold it in the skin. When your skin is well hydrated, it can look plumper and smoother, and fine lines caused by dehydration can be less noticeable.
Here’s where people sometimes get it wrong: hyaluronic acid isn’t a moisturizer all by itself. It doesn't add the moisture to your skin, it stands on the street corner and beckons the water over. Without HA, the water evaporates a little quicker. With HA, it stays at the party a little longer. That’s why I like applying hydrating products to slightly damp skin and following them with a moisturizer that supports the skin barrier and helps reduce water loss.
And more isn't necessarily better. Layering three different hyaluronic acid serums because TikTok said so isn't going to give you three times the hydration. Good skincare is about choosing ingredients that work well together and using them in a way that makes sense for *your* skin.
Glass skin may be a trend. Hydrated skin never goes out of style.

Last week, we talked about “glass skin” and the false promise of skin so smooth, poreless, and reflective it looks like glass. So, let’s talk about one of the things that actually helps skin look smooth, even, and healthy: hydration.
Drinking water does matter. But, girl, your water bottle cannot do all the work by herself. Your skin loses water to the environment throughout the day, and things like dry air, hot showers, over-cleansing, and over-exfoliating can make that loss worse. A healthy skin barrier helps hold onto that water instead of letting it escape.
That means hydration is a team effort:
Drink enough fluids to support your body.
Use a gentle cleanser that doesn’t leave your skin feeling tight.
Apply hydrating products to slightly damp skin.
Follow with a moisturizer that helps seal that hydration in.
Stop exfoliating your face like it owes you money.
Healthy, hydrated skin reflects light better and often looks smoother, younger, and more radiant. Your pores will still be there, because they’re supposed to be. Healthy skin doesn't have to look like glass to look beautiful.
Chase healthy skin, not imaginary skin. Book your time with the Cottagekeeper, and let’s give your skin what it actually needs.
