If laser hair removal feels painful, you shouldn’t have to silently endure it for the sake of results.

But what sensations are considered normal, and which ones would make me stop the treatment immediately?

During a laser pulse, you may feel warmth, tingling, or a quick “snap” against the skin. The sensation may be more noticeable in sensitive areas.

After the treatment, mild redness and slight swelling around the hair follicles can be normal — this is usually a temporary skin reaction.

But intense burning that keeps getting stronger, sudden unusual pain, or the feeling that your skin is literally being burned is not something you should tolerate for a few more pulses.

I stop immediately and check how the skin is reacting.

Because the idea that “the more it hurts, the more effective it is” does not apply to laser hair removal.

Overly aggressive treatment can increase the risk of burns, pigmentation changes, and other unwanted reactions.

During the procedure, I always ask you to tell me about everything you’re feeling. You can ask for a pause at any time, tell me if it feels too hot, or let me know if the sensation has changed.

My client came to me with a problem that had made her feel self-conscious about simply raising her arms for years.

Even right after shaving, her underarms still looked dark.

It can take months for the skin to fully renew itself and return to a more even tone.
