I did not find Environ because I was looking for another skincare line. I found it because I was studying microneedling. I wanted to understand more than the treatment itself — what happens after those controlled micro-injuries, how the skin repairs itself, and how we can support that healing process intelligently. That research kept bringing me back to one name: Dr. Des Fernandes. Dr. Fernandes is a South African plastic and reconstructive surgeon who became deeply focused on skin physiology, vitamin A, wound healing, and collagen induction, and later founded Environ. He is also one of the important pioneers in the development of modern microneedling, which immediately caught my attention. That was my rabbit hole. Then I discovered Environ and its philosophy around daily vitamin A, antioxidants, and gradually increasing active levels instead of overwhelming the skin. When I connected with DermaConcepts, Environ’s U.S. distributor, the first conversations were not about pushing an order. We talked about my practice, how I approach skin, what I was looking for, and what I wanted to understand better. I actually began using Environ myself before fully committing to bringing it into my practice. Then came the education. My first in-person training took me to South Florida, where I spent two days learning the science, products, and professional treatment philosophy with Candace Noonan Noonan, Director of Education at DermaConcepts. That level of education and ongoing support has been one of the reasons I have stayed with the line. And this is my skin today. No filler. No Botox. No beauty filter. Just consistency, professional treatments when appropriate, sunscreen, and about a year and a half of Environ Youth EssentiA. I do not believe one product line is magic, and I do not believe everyone needs the same routine. I do believe in understanding why something is being used, what the skin actually needs, and giving it enough time to respond. That is the kind of skin care I want Skin Matters to be. Healthy skin first. Everything else follows.

Skin Matters was built around a very simple belief: your skin deserves more than a menu of treatments.
Skin is constantly changing. Age, hormones, lifestyle, stress, environment, medications, home care, previous treatments, and even the season can influence what it needs at any given time. That is why the approach at Skin Matters is never one-size-fits-all.
The goal is not to sell the newest treatment, use the strongest product, or recommend something simply because it is popular. The goal is to understand what is happening with the skin first, then make thoughtful decisions based on what will actually support it.
That may mean focusing on barrier health before doing something more corrective. It may mean introducing vitamin A gradually rather than aggressively. It may mean choosing a different treatment than the one originally requested. Sometimes it may even mean recommending that nothing intensive be done yet.
Education is a major part of every appointment. Clients should understand why something is being recommended, what it is designed to do, what realistic results look like, and how home care fits into the bigger picture.
Skin Matters combines professional treatments, evidence-informed skin care, ongoing education, and individualized planning with one priority: long-term skin health and results that make sense for the person in front of me.
