Spa City Stretch
Spa City Stretch is Hot Springs' go-to studio for assisted stretch therapy and massage β built for active adults who refuse to slow down.
Whether you're managing chronic tightness, recovering from training, or just want to move better day to day,
Your hamstrings are not where you feel them. π
They run from the bottom of your pelvis down behind the knee. When they're short, they tug that pelvis down and back β and your low back has to arch harder to keep you upright.
It holds that arch all day. Then at five o'clock the back is what hurts, and the hamstrings never say a word.
This is a straight-leg raise with the knee kept extended, so the stretch has nowhere to go but the hamstring. No sneaking a bend into the knee, which is what everyone does to themselves at home.
Two spots left this week β Tuesday afternoon and Friday afternoon. spacitystretch.com

New week starts tomorrow, and it's filling up fast. β¨
If you've been meaning to come in and kept not doing it, now's a good moment to stop meaning and start booking.
Worth saying plainly for anyone hesitating: you don't have to be flexible, you don't have to be an athlete, and nothing has to be seriously wrong. Half the people who come in are just tired of one thing that's been bugging them for months. That's reason enough.
You lie down, we move you, and you leave moving easier. First hour is fifty dollars if it's your first time.

Next week's spots are filling up. π
If you've been meaning to book, this is the moment to actually do it β rather than the vague someday you've been telling yourself since August.
Never been in? That first hour is fifty dollars, half off the usual hundred. Stretching or massage, though we'll admit to having a favorite.
And the thing people still don't know: no gym membership needed. Come in as a non-member and the locker room is yours too. Sauna, hot tub, steam room. Get stretched out, then go sit in the heat as long as you like.

Sometimes the table isn't the right tool. β¨
For a lot of leg work, the floor is better. There's room to move around you, room to change angle mid-stretch, and we can use body weight instead of fighting for leverage at table height. The table's a fixed platform. The floor's the whole room.
Which is the honest answer to "what does a session look like" β it depends. Some of it's on the table, some on the floor, some sitting upright in your regular clothes. We put you wherever the joint we're working actually opens up best.
Nothing to change into. Come as you are.

A test that takes about four seconds, and most people fail it without noticing. π
Lie on your back. Pull one knee up and let it fall across your body toward the opposite side, keeping both shoulders on the floor.
Now the other side.
One of them goes further. That's rotation through your hip and low back, and it's the range that quietly disappears when your days are spent facing straight ahead β desk, steering wheel, phone. Nothing in a normal day asks your body to twist.
You notice it eventually. Usually when you reverse the car and realize you're turning your whole torso instead of just looking.

Wednesday, and we're betting at least one of your shoulders is currently higher than the other. π
Check it. Most people have a dominant side that sits noticeably closer to the ear β the side you carry the bag on, hold the phone with, lean on in the car.
Your neck doesn't experience that as a posture quirk. It experiences it as a muscle on one side working a longer shift than the muscle on the other. Over months, that side gets short and cranky, and you get a neck that's only ever tight in one place.
Seated work like this evens it back out. No table, nothing to change into, and it's usually the first thing we do.

Can't keep your legs still once you get in bed?
Not pain exactly. More like your legs want something and won't tell you what. So you shift, straighten, bend, hang one off the side of the bed, and half an hour disappears.
Part of what's happening is simple: your hips and glutes spent the day in one position, and now you've asked them to hold still in another one. They've got nothing left to give, so they keep asking to move.
It isn't the only explanation, and if it's severe it's worth a conversation with your doctor. But if yours shows up on the days you sat the most, that's a pattern worth paying attention to.
Side-lying glute and hip work. Exactly the layer involved. π

The front of your hip is shorter than it should be, and you'll never feel it there.
Sitting keeps your hip flexor in a shortened position for hours at a time. It doesn't hurt, because muscles don't complain about being short β they complain about being asked to lengthen suddenly.
So you stand up, it pulls the front of your pelvis down, your low back arches to compensate, and by five o'clock something aches. Usually the back. Occasionally the knee. Almost never the hip flexor itself, which is the one that started it.
Bent knee, hip opened up, and the front of that chain finally gets some length.

If your low back is the thing that hurts, your hamstrings are worth a look. π
They attach to the bottom of your pelvis. When they're short, they pull that whole structure down and back β and your low back has to arch to keep you upright. It holds that arch all day, and then it's the back that complains, not the hamstrings.
Which is why stretching your back sometimes does very little. You're working on the part that's compensating, not the part that's causing it.
This is a straight-leg raise with the other leg pinned down, so the stretch has to come from the hamstring instead of the pelvis rolling along for the ride.

Sunday, and next week hasn't started on you yet.
Quick note for anyone who's been thinking about coming in but hasn't. You don't need to be an athlete, you don't need to be flexible, and you don't need to have anything dramatically wrong with you. "My shoulder's been weird for a while" is a completely normal reason to book.
We're open Monday through Friday, 8 to 6. You can be in and out on a lunch break, or take the long version and sit in the sauna afterwards.
If it's your first time, that first hour is fifty dollars. π
