After being in a protective style for weeks, a basic shampoo just isn’t gonna cut it. 😭 Your hair needs a RESET before it’s ready for the next style!
✨ Shampoo at least a couple of times to thoroughly cleanse the hair and scalp
💦 Deep condition to restore moisture
💪🏿 Protein treatment to strengthen the hair. I love using Chebe powder, but I also recommend Aphogee’s protein treatments.
💆🏿♀️ Massage your scalp for that blood flow and TLC
THEN your hair is ready for the “next.” 👏🏿
Don’t just take the braids down and immediately put another style in. Give your hair and scalp the care they need FIRST. 🌱

I’ve been on my personal development journey for a minute now, and one of the first things I learned was this: being the victim doesn’t mean you’ll stay the victim when you’re out here tearing that person’s name down. Acting like that person doesn’t have their own relationship with God too.
I have BIG dreams I want to accomplish. When your dreams are big, you don’t have time to sit around pondering on things that aren’t going to help you get there. You got about 5 minutes to feel it, process it, and then we gotta move on. 🤣
So here’s my invitation to you: think about something or someone you’ve been giving way too much mental space to. Feel what you need to feel, give it to God, and then ask yourself, “Is holding onto this helping me become the person I’m trying to be?” If not, it might be time to move on… and move on UP.
Part 2!
Faux locs can be tricky because you’re at risk of cutting your real hair out. But this method help reduce it tremendously!

UPDATE ON MY EDGES! 😭🙌🏿🌱
I’ve been able to grow my edges back using Within The Roots products and, most importantly, staying CONSISTENT with my regimen. If you’re struggling with thinning edges or hair loss, here are some things that have helped me:
1. Get your lab work done! 🩸
Before focusing only on what you’re putting on your hair, find out what’s going on inside your body. Talk with your healthcare provider about whether testing things like CBC, ferritin/iron studies, vitamin D, B12/folate, thyroid (TSH), and zinc makes sense for you. Depending on your symptoms, they may recommend additional testing.
2. Take your vitamins. 💊
I take MaryRuth’s hair vitamins as part of my routine. Supplements aren’t a replacement for finding and treating an underlying deficiency, so this goes hand-in-hand with getting your labs checked.
3. KEEP YOUR SCALP CLEAN. 🫧
I use Within The Roots Chebe Black Soap Shampoo, followed by the Holistic Conditioner. A clean, healthy scalp helps create a better environment for healthy hair growth.
4. Oil your scalp. 🌿
I use Within The Roots Chebe Hair Growth Oil, packed with 11 organic ingredients, including jojoba oil, neem oil, and tea tree oil, to nourish and condition my scalp and support a healthy environment for hair growth. Remember oil is a sealant not a moisturizer so I recommend spraying water or leave in conditioner first.
5. MASSAGE, MASSAGE, MASSAGE! 💆🏿♀️
I massage my scalp for at least 5 minutes, 3–5 times a week. Scalp massage can increase blood flow to the scalp, and CONSISTENCY has been a huge part of my regimen.
6. Take care of YOU. 🥗💧🏿🏃🏿♀️
Manage your stress, exercise, drink your water, eat your fruits and vegetables, and make sure you’re nourishing your body. Healthy hair starts from within, so taking care of yourself matters too.
If you’re struggling to grow your edges back, start with these steps and STAY CONSISTENT. 🌱 Your hair won’t change overnight, but those small habits add up!
Within The Roots products can support you along your healthy hair journey. 🌿

Can you imagine being in so much pain that you go on an hour-long walk and the ONLY thing you say the entire time is, “God, please heal my pain,” over and over again?
That was me. 😭
I’ve been dealing with chronic pain since 2020, and when I tell y’all I tried EVERYTHING I could to figure out what was wrong, I mean everything.
I eventually got an MRI and was diagnosed with cervical radiculopathy, which was believed to be related to whiplash from a car accident I had about 15 years earlier. 😱
Those first couple of years were HELL because I didn’t understand what was happening to my body, and nothing seemed to work.
One thing I really didn’t want was for long-term pain medication to be my only answer. I wanted to understand my pain, work on the cause where possible, and actually improve how my body felt; not just mask the symptoms.
So I started paying attention to my body. I learned. I stretched. I got massages. I tried acupuncture literally out of desperation and just kept figuring out what worked for ME.
And thank God, I can genuinely say my pain has gotten SO much better. 🥹 I went from experiencing pain that could reach 10/10 to now typically being around 3–6/10. I’m still not where I want to be, but I’m extremely grateful for the progress.
Does braiding take a toll on my body? Absolutely. But honestly, that’s part of WHY I became so serious about learning how to take care of myself.
I wanted to keep braiding.
This is my passion. 🤎 Being able to create beautiful braids while protecting my clients’ hair and scalp means so much to me, and I refuse to stop taking care of the body that allows me to do it.
We’re not at pain-free yet… but we’ve come a LONG way. 🥹🙏🏿
