You’ve probably seen the videos saying a laser can reverse skin aging at the DNA level. We read the actual study so you don’t have to.

Welcome to Clinical Studies Review, a new weekly series from Texas Laser Institute. Each week we pick one published study on a treatment you’re learning or already performing and break down what it really shows.

This week: a 1940 nm fractional laser study published in Scientific Reports (June 2026). Researchers treated one side of each person’s face three times and left the other side alone as a comparison. Over the next few months, the treated side showed DNA patterns that looked younger, plus fewer brown spots and smoother texture.

It’s exciting, but it’s early. Only 22 people finished the study, it was funded by the device maker, and it measured DNA tags, not how old anyone’s skin actually is.

That’s what we teach our students: get excited about the science, then read the fine print before you promise a client anything.

There is nothing quite like watching a room full of estheticians stop guessing and start mixing their own peels, which is exactly what this hands-on day looked like.
Our Chemical Exfoliation Specialist students learned how each acid behaves, how to layer with confidence, and how to build a peel for the actual skin in front of them instead of reaching for whatever pre-mixed bottle a brand told them to buy.

The coursework is online and self-paced, so you handle the science on your own schedule and save the fun part for class day.
