This e-tron sat with bird p**p baked into the clear coat for weeks. Bird droppings are acidic and start etching your paint fast — the longer it sits, the deeper it goes. This one was close to permanent damage.

Don’t leave it. Get it off within a day or two, or you’re paying for paint correction instead of a wash.

Sprinkler water sitting on your paint for hours turns into hard water spots that etch into the clear coat. The minerals bake in under the sun and leave marks a regular wash won’t lift — sometimes not even a full correction will. Move your car before the sprinklers hit, or hose it off right after.

Clay bar first, or the PPF fails.

Paint holds onto bonded contaminants — brake dust, rail dust, tree sap, overspray — that a wash alone won’t touch. Clay pulls all of it off the surface down to bare paint. Skip it and PPF goes on over that texture, trapping it underneath and leaving the film looking bumpy instead of glass-smooth.

It’s also what lets the film actually bond right. Any leftover grime under the film breaks adhesion and creates weak spots where it can lift or bubble down the road. Clay is the step nobody sees in the final photos, but it’s what makes the finished wrap look flawless and last.

Matte paint can’t be polished or corrected like gloss — any rock chip or scratch is permanent unless the panel gets repainted. PPF takes the hit before it ever reaches the clear coat, so the finish stays factory for years. Multi-day build, more to come.
