Recently Amber had the opportunity to welcome one of her former cosmetology students into her chair for a birthday transformation, and this one felt especially meaningful.

More than 12 years after teaching Nina in cosmetology school, she trusted Amber with complete creative freedom for a fresh new look. And if you know Amber, you know a bob with a fringe is always going to be a favorite.

One of the things we love most about this industry is that the relationships don't end after graduation or even after an appointment. Watching students grow into talented professionals, staying connected through the years, and then having them return to trust us with their hair is incredibly special.

“More Than a Salon” has never been a catchy slogan to us. It’s simply who we are.

One of the greatest privileges of working in this industry is caring for people, which is why one of our favorite community partnerships is with TSI Cares Network, LLC. Their mission is to provide stable, compassionate housing and support for youth in foster care, extended foster care, and former foster youth, creating hope and opportunity for young people in our community.

We’ve already had the honor to partner with them and provide hair services for all of their Jacksonville residents for a while, so when they asked if we’d help with their Cosmetology Career Camp this summer, our answer was an immediate yes.

For the past week, we spent time with a dozen incredible teens exploring color theory, skincare, nails, braiding, blowouts, business, social media, and all the possibilities this industry has to offer.

We went into the week excited to pour into them.

Instead, we were the ones who left with our cups overflowing.

Seven campers showed such incredible passion and work ethic that we invited them to spend the final day shadowing our team at Steele Hair Gallery.

Was it chaotic? Absolutely. 🤍

There were more people in our salon than ever before, and we found ourselves apologizing to guest after guest for the extra conversations, extra movement, and organized chaos.

Every single response was the same.

“I love seeing them here.”
“This is so cool.”
“I’m glad they get this opportunity.”

That was the moment we realized something.

The community we’ve built extends far beyond our team. The people who choose Steele Hair Gallery believe in kindness. They believe in encouraging others. They believe that everyone deserves the opportunity to learn, grow, and feel like they belong.
