October Yin Pose: Extended Childās Pose
Iāve really enjoyed hearing how different yin poses resonate with the people I get to practice with, and this month Iām excited to feature Danielle and one of her favorites: Extended Childās Pose.
āIt helps stretch my pecs and chest, and helps my posture.ā
Extended Childās Pose is one of those shapes that can look simple, but when we give it some time, thereās a lot of space to explore. With the arms reaching forward and the hips settling back, it can create length through the upper back while opening through the shoulders and chest.
As always with yin, we arenāt trying to force the body into a certain shape or make the pose look a particular way. Your hips donāt need to reach your heels, and your chest doesnāt need to reach the floor. Find an edge you can breathe with, settle in, and let time do some of the work.
Thank you, Danielle, for sharing your pose and what you love about it. ā¤ļø
Iāve really enjoyed bringing some of the people I get to practice with into these monthly posts. If youād like to be featured in an upcoming Monthly Yin Pose, send me a photo of yourself in your favorite yin pose along with a few sentences about why you love it!

From Yoga International:
Yoga Nidra, or "yogic sleep," is a guided meditation practice that induces deep relaxation, reducing stress, anxiety, and insomnia while improving emotional regulation and cognitive function. By activating the parasympathetic nervous system, it helps lower blood pressure, reduce cortisol levels, and alleviate chronic pain.

Last night filled my whole heart. ā¤ļøš„
Iām still trying to put into words what it felt like to look around that fire and see such a beautiful community of people gathered together in kinship. People willing to show up, be present, hold space for one another and, maybe most importantly, hold space for themselves.
The energy was SO big and strong. You could feel it.
We started by journaling privately. Nobody had to share what they wrote or explain what they were releasing to anyone.
When it was time, everyone tied their journaling with red string to a sprig of basil, which we used to represent purification and release. I walked around the circle and collected each personās piece to bring to the fire.
I invited everyone to stand if they wished as we burned all of our releases together.
And then something happened that I hadnāt planned at all. š„¹
People just naturally started reaching for one anotherās hands.
Before I knew it, this huge, beautiful circle had formed around the fire.
We stood there together, hand in hand, and watched all of those words, experiences, fears, beliefs, patterns, grief, or whatever each person had privately chosen to release go up in flames.
Nobody needed to know what the person beside them had written.
Nobody needed to explain themselves.
We just stood together and held space for one another while it burned.
That moment will stay with me for a very long time. ā¤ļøš„
And getting to experience my mom stepping forward into her own power and so lovingly sharing her beautiful heart through meditation and Group Reiki is something I will never forget. Watching her share that part of herself with everyone gathered there made me incredibly proud of her. ā¤ļø
After releasing, we shifted into creating our intention jars.
Everyone chose herbs and ingredients that represented their own hopes, dreams, goals and intentions for the coming season.
I loved that we had just physically released something into the fire, and then we got to use our hands to create something new.
Something tangible to bring home. Something to look at throughout the coming season as a reminder of what they hope to grow, welcome and create in their lives. šæ
And throughout the evening, people wandered the trails, spent time around the fire, shared food, talked, laughed, got quiet and just experienced the space in whatever way felt right for them. ā¤ļø
At the end of the night, we pulled one final card from the Gratitude Oracle. There wasnāt some big complicated question behind it. I simply wanted one card that the entire group could take in and receive together after everything we had just experienced.
And the card we pulled wasā¦
In Between.
Of course it was. š„¹
We had just released what we were ready to leave behind.
We had created something representing what we hoped to bring forward.
And there we wereā¦
In between.
Between releasing and receiving.
Between one season and another.
Between what was and what will be.
There was something so fitting about ending the night there.
Not needing to immediately know what comes next. Not needing to have everything figured out. Just honoring that space after we let something go and before whatever is coming next has fully arrived.
Sometimes weāre simply in between.
And maybe thereās something beautiful about allowing ourselves to be there. ā¤ļø
There were SO many people who helped make this night possible.
Leah Brooke sang beautifully, as she always does, and brought something to the evening that a playlist simply never could. ā¤ļø
My incredibly talented sister, who also happens to be a pastry chef, made the most amazing pumpkin bars. 𤤠Others brought treats to share too, which made the whole evening feel even more like community.
My Aunt Katie and cousin Trish helped everyone create and finish their intention jars.
Emily helped get nearly 50 people checked in and settled.
And I have SO much gratitude for Margaret and Keife for opening their land to all of us and giving us the most perfect space, beautiful trails, and one incredibly powerful fire to gather around. š„
So many others reached out to help, carried things, brought things, helped set up and clean up, checked on me, and simply stepped in wherever something needed to happen.
I truly could not have done this without each and every one of you. š
There were so many individual pieces that went into creating this night.
But then everyone showed up.
And somehow all of those individual pieces became something much bigger.
People laughed. People cried. People got quiet. People walked the trails. People released. People received. We ate together, listened to beautiful music, made intentions and stood around a fire holding hands with people whose stories we may not even know.
For a couple of hours, a group of humans simply showed up for one another.
That was the part that got me.
This is what I want more of.
Community. Connection. Kinship.
Spaces where we donāt need to fix each other or even know each otherās stories to hold space for one another. Where we can come exactly as we are, honor whatever season someone else might be walking through, and remember that none of us are doing this whole human experience alone.
To every single person who trusted us enough to be part of this:
Thank you. You created this with us. ā¤ļø
My heart is very, very full.
And after experiencing what happened around that fireā¦
I have a feeling this wonāt be the last time we gather. šš„ā¤ļø

Some of you know that my son, Ronan, was injured at birth and now lives with cerebral palsy.
Being his mom has changed so much about the way I see the work that I do.
Long before Ronan was born, I spent years working with people with physical and developmental disabilities. I had experience caring for people with complex needs, including feeding tubes and other medical supports. Then I became a massage therapist and continued learning about the body, the nervous system, movement, fascia, touch, and healing.
I had no idea then how deeply I would someday need all of those pieces of my life.
Now I get to bring them together for my own little boy.
Massage and bodywork have become another way I can support Ronan. I get to help him experience his body through safe touch, movement, relaxation, connection, and play. And as Iāve continued my education, especially in myofascial work, Iāve found even more ways to meet his body where it is rather than trying to force it to be somewhere else.
There are many things about his journey that I wish I could change. But I am incredibly grateful that when life handed me the responsibility of caring for this beautiful, complicated little body, I already had so many tools in my hands.
Sometimes I think about all the jobs, experiences, education, and seemingly unrelated chapters that came before this one. I couldnāt see how they connected at the time.
Now I can.
Life has a way of giving meaning to things in hindsight. Maybe we donāt always know what weāre preparing for while weāre becoming who we are.
I feel incredibly blessed that some of the gifts Iāve spent my life developing are now gifts I can give to my son. š¤

September Yin Pose: Reclined Butterfly
Iāve loved hearing how different yin poses resonate with the people I get to practice with, and this month Iām excited to feature Shavon and one of her favorites: Reclined Butterfly.
āI feel grounded in my body, and it really helps my hips.ā
Reclined Butterfly is one of those poses that looks incredibly simple, but given a little time and stillness, there can be a lot to explore. It gently opens through the inner thighs, groin, hips, and front of the pelvis while giving you space to slow down and notice whatās happening in your body.
As always with yin, we arenāt trying to force the body into a certain shape or achieve the deepest stretch possible. Adjust your feet closer to or farther away from your body and find an edge you can breathe with. Support is always an option, not a requirement.
Thank you, Shavon, for sharing your pose and what you love about it. š
