💌 5 things that can affect how long your brows last

Clients often ask:

“Why did my friend’s brows last longer than mine?”

Because retention is personal.

Several things can affect how pigment heals and fades:

1. Skin type — oily skin may fade differently from dry skin.
2. Skincare — exfoliants, retinol, acids and certain active ingredients can accelerate fading.
3. Sun exposure — UV exposure can affect pigment longevity.
4. Lifestyle — sweating, workouts, swimming and frequent sun exposure can influence retention.
5. Aftercare — how you care for your brows during healing matters.

This is why permanent makeup never comes with an identical timeline for every client.

Typically, brow results may last 1–3 years, but your individual retention may vary.

Permanent makeup is designed to soften and fade over time.

That is part of what allows us to keep the result natural.

Have previous brow work? Please don’t hide it.

Old permanent makeup matters—even when it looks faded.

Pigment can still exist beneath the skin even when it’s difficult to see in photos.

That previous work can affect:

Color choice.
Technique choice.
Hairstroke visibility.
Shape correction.
And whether new work can safely be performed at all.

Sometimes we can work over it.

Sometimes correction is possible.

And sometimes the safest and most beautiful recommendation is to allow more fading or consider removal first.

Then we recommend the technique accordingly.

Sometimes that means Nanoblading.

Sometimes Tran’s Signature Brows™.

Sometimes Soft Ombré.

And sometimes the professional recommendation may be different from what you originally thought you wanted.

That’s okay.

We’re not here to put the same brows on every face.

We’re here to design the right brows for your face, your skin, and your lifestyle.

Will Combo Brows look blocky?

They shouldn’t.

One of the biggest fears I hear before a Combo Brow appointment is:

“I don’t want the front of my brows to look stamped on.”

Neither do I.

Tran’s Signature Brows™ is specifically designed to preserve softness and dimension.

Instead of creating one solid brow from front to tail, we use Nano Hairstrokes toward the front and strategically introduce soft shading where additional density and definition are needed.

That transition matters.

The front should still feel soft.

The body should feel balanced.

The tail should have enough definition to frame your face.

The result should never scream:

“I tattooed my eyebrows.”

It should simply make your face feel more balanced—even before you put makeup on.

Nanoblading is beautiful—but it is not the right choice for every client.

Very fine hairstrokes depend heavily on skin behavior.

If your skin is oily or combination, those ultra-fine strokes may not heal or retain as crisply as they can on normal-to-dry skin.

So even if you arrive asking for Nano Brows, I may recommend a different technique.

That isn’t because I don’t want to perform the service.

It’s because I care more about your healed result than simply giving you the technique you saw online.

The right technique for your skin will always matter more than the trendiest technique.
