Pain, stiffness, or limited movement making everyday activities harder?
Massage therapy may help you move more comfortably and feel better in your body.
Whether you’re dealing with neck and shoulder tension, low back discomfort, hip tightness, muscle soreness, or pain from work, exercise, or daily life, massage therapy can do more than simply relax tight muscles.
The area that hurts isn’t always where the problem begins.
A painful or restricted area may be compensating for tension or limited movement somewhere else.
That’s why I look beyond the symptoms to understand how your body is moving and what may be contributing to the discomfort.
I look at how you move, where movement is restricted, and which muscles may be tight or overworking.
Depending on what I find, I may combine deep tissue massage, trigger point therapy, myofascial release, stretching, joint mobilization, and Swedish massage.
If you’re dealing with pain, tightness, limited movement, or an issue that keeps coming back, reach out to set up an appointment.
Take care of your body and it will take care of you.

Why does the front of my shoulder hurt when I sleep with my arms up?”
A client asked me this the other day.
She notices it in bed if she falls asleep with her arms up, but also when she’s sitting in her recliner with her arms raised.
She’s trying to get comfortable. Her shoulder has other plans.
Here’s what could be happening: raising your arm changes how the tendons and other tissues move within your shoulder.
If the rotator cuff tendons or the bursa, the small fluid-filled cushion that helps them glide, are irritated, overhead positions can aggravate them.
That can cause pain in the front or side of your shoulder.
But that symptom alone doesn’t tell us exactly which structure is responsible.
A few things to try:
• Change the position that brings on the pain. If sleeping with your arms overhead hurts, try keeping them lower.
• In your recliner, rest your forearm on a pillow in your lap so your arm is supported.
• Keep your shoulder moving gently within a comfortable range. Don’t force an overhead stretch through sharp pain.
Where does massage fit?
Massage may help ease shoulder discomfort in the short term.
It can be part of your care, but recurring pain deserves an assessment to understand what’s causing it.
Sudden severe pain, inability to lift your arm, or persistent numbness needs prompt medical attention.
When you come in, tell me about the everyday moments that bother you.
*Sleeping
*Reaching
*Sitting in your favorite chair
Those details matter.
Have questions about whether massage makes sense for your shoulder discomfort? Send me a message.

Let's talk about the red light, because half the internet is selling one right now and most of them are lying to you about what it does.
The truth in advance: it's not a fat burner, so don't get too bummed. 😏
I wanted a side modality I could run during a session, not instead of one.
Something that opens the tissue up so I can get deeper into it while I'm working, not a panel you sit in front of for ten minutes and hope.
Red and near-infrared light does that.
Hands plus light is a solid one-two punch, and it lets me get the most out of the time you're on the table while treating the whole area instead of just the one spot that hurts.
The science, briefly. Red and near-infrared light gets absorbed by your mitochondria, the part of your cells that makes energy.
The clinical name is photobiomodulation.
Research supports less soreness in the first 24 hours after hard work and better recovery of strength.
The honest caveat is that a lot of those studies are small and the protocols aren't standardized, so anybody telling you the science is settled hasn't read it.
And I'm not charging for it. It's included. If it makes your session better, it should just be part of your session.
That's it. No miracle claims, no before-and-afters, no "detox." It's a good tool that earns its spot,

Your headache probably isn't a head problem.
See where my hands are in this photo?
Base of the skull.
Those little muscles are called the suboccipitals, and when they stay tight from screens, driving, and stress, they send pain up over your scalp and behind your eyes.
People call it a tension headache, and It started in your neck.
That's why I work the neck face up.
Face down, your head's in a cradle and those muscles keep bracing.
Face up, I'm holding the weight of your skull and they finally quit fighting me.
Afternoon headaches after a screen day are usually muscular.
If you’re having sudden severe headaches, vision changes, or dizziness though, don’t hesitate to reach out to your doctor.

Parents ask me all the time: "Do you work with kids?"
I do, and this review from a mom who brought in her 14-year-old daughter for hip pain shows you exactly what that looks like.
Here's how youth visits work at Muscle Movement & Improvement:
Parents are in the room. Always. Not by request, it's just how I do it.
I explain everything before I do it, in language your kid actually understands.
And every young client leaves with a few simple things they can do at home, because my goal is for them to need me less, not more.
Whether it's a student athlete getting worn down by their season or a kiddo dealing with pain that showed up out of nowhere, an assessment is the place to start. We'll figure out what's going on together.
24 years of experience, right here in Briarcliff. Link to book is in the comments (or message me).

Will you see results after your first massage?
It depends on what’s causing the pain, how long it’s been there, and whether we can figure out where the problem is actually coming from.
Some people walk out after one session feeling a HUGE difference.
Others may have been dealing with tight muscles, poor movement, repetitive stress, or an old injury for months or even years.
Those problems usually aren’t going to completely disappear in one session.
Think about it this way…
if it took years for your body to get to this point, it could take more than an hour to undo it.
That’s also where maintenance massage can help.
Once you’re feeling and moving better, regular massage can help keep muscles and surrounding tissue loose, improve movement, catch smaller problems before they become bigger ones, and help keep the pain from coming back.
My goal isn’t to keep you coming forever.
It’s to figure out what’s causing the problem, help you move better, hurt less, and keep you feeling that way as long as possible.

When was your last massage?
Did you know:?
There’s a reason massage therapy has been around for thousands of years.
Even with all the advances in modern medicine, people still seek massage because it works.
Don’t get me wrong—medications and medical treatments absolutely have their place. They save lives every day.
But not every ache, pain, or tight muscle needs another pill.
Many times, pain is coming from tight muscles, restricted fascia, old injuries, poor posture, repetitive movements, or stress.
If you only cover up the pain without addressing what’s causing it, it often comes right back.
That’s why I don’t just massage where it hurts.
I evaluate how you’re moving and look for the source of the problem.
Then I use the techniques that fit your body—whether that’s deep tissue, myofascial release, trigger point therapy, stretching, or joint mobilization.
My goal isn’t to keep you coming forever. It’s to help you move better, hurt less, and stay that way.
So I’ll ask again…
When was your last massage?

What type of massage is best for pain relief?
Truthfully, there isn’t one massage technique that’s “best” for everyone.
Results from treatment depend on what’s actually causing your pain.
There are many modalities that could be used together but, the key is knowing when to use each one.
For example, if your low back hurts because your hips are restricted, focusing only on your back may provide temporary relief.
But, finding the source of the problem often leads to better, longer-lasting results.
That’s why every session starts with an assessment.
Instead of using the same technique on everyone, I evaluate what’s contributing to your pain and combine the treatments that best fit your body.
Pain relief isn’t about one technique, it’s about using the right techniques for the right reason.

Not all massages use one technique.
Every type of massage involves working with the body’s soft tissues, but the techniques and tools and why they’re used are different.
Some techniques focus more on muscles.
Some work with the fascia, others work to improve mobility, others reduce pain, improve circulation, release trigger points, or help your body recover from injury.
That’s why I don’t believe in using the same technique on everyone, but more of a hybrid of different tools and techniques.
After 24 years as a massage therapist, I’ve learned that the best results come from finding the cause of the problem first, then choosing the right combination of techniques.
This may include:
* Deep Tissue
* myofascial release,
* trigger point therapy,
* stretching, joint mobilization, sports massage.
Or a few others.
Massage isn’t about one technique being “better” than another.
It’s about using the right technique/s for the right problem.
