Can we normalize respecting small business owners and service providers?

A lot of people only see the finished service and not everything happening behind the scenes. We’re not just ‘doing nails,’ ‘doing hair,’ taking photos, baking cakes, etc. We are managing schedules, supplies, inventory, bills, marketing, customer service, family life, and our own mental health all at once.

Problematic clients will
Book and cancel last minute like our time isn’t valuable
Show up late but still expect full service
Ignore policies then get mad when they’re enforced
Ask for discounts while spending freely elsewhere
Text/call all hours of the night expecting immediate responses
Bring negativity, entitlement, or disrespect into our space
No-show appointments without considering the income lost

What some people don’t realize is one missed appointment can throw off an entire day financially and mentally for a small business owner. We don’t get PTO, sick days, guaranteed paychecks, or HR departments to fall back on. If we don’t work, we usually don’t get paid.

Boundaries, deposits, cancellation fees, and policies are not about being mean or money hungry. They are in place because too many people take advantage of small businesses when there are no boundaries.
