Cold water but refreshing after a cold swim. Great view of the town and the peloponnese across. Souvlaki and french fries for lunch! Δόξα τω Θεώ!

When someone says, “Father, I think someone gave me the evil eye,” my first question isn’t, “Who do you think did it?” It’s, “Have you prayed today?”
We Greeks and Greek Americans have a funny habit. Before we call the priest, we call our mom or our yiayia. 😊 We search the neighborhood for the one person who “knows the prayer,” as if grace were a family recipe passed down with the spanakopita.
But the Church gently reminds us that our protection is not found in secret words or superstitions. Our protection is Christ Himself.
Yes, the Orthodox Church recognizes that envy, hatred, and the influence of the evil one are real. But she never teaches us to live in fear of them. Instead, she places in our hands the strongest weapon of all: the Holy Cross, the prayers of the Church, Holy Water, Holy Confession, Holy Communion, and a life united with Christ.
When we live close to Christ, we don’t spend our days wondering who looked at us the wrong way. We spend them looking toward the One who loves us the right way.
So if you think you’ve been affected by the evil eye, don’t panic. Don’t be afraid. Come to the Church. Ask your priest to read the prayer for the evil eye. Make the sign of the Cross. Receive the Holy Mysteries. Fill your heart with Christ.
Because darkness has never been stronger than Light.
And forgive me, yiayias… we still love you☺️. But this time, please encourage your children and family to visit your priest before they go out searching in the neighborhood. ❤️
