The pelvic tilt in the Spinal Fitness book is a precise lower-back exercise, and the setup is what makes it work.
You lie with your hips cradled in the PowerCushion cutout. The low back from L4 upward rests on the cushion, and the sacrum hangs free below it.
Two forces then act on the pelvis. Steady resistance presses straight down on the front of the pelvis, about 70 pounds in Dr. John Scherger's analysis. At the same time your re**us abdominis draws the p***c bone up toward the rib cage.
The pelvis rotates around the cushion. The front tilts up, the sacrum moves down and back, and L5 shears backward relative to L4. In the analysis that shear is 149 pounds at the sacrum and 7 pounds by the top of the low back.
The facet joints catch that motion, bone against bone, so the low back is held in place by its own architecture while your abdominal muscles do the lifting.
The book's cues: keep both legs fully extended, toes drawn slightly back, upper body resting down, and exhale as you draw the pelvis toward the ribs. Every rep is slow and controlled.
The Power Cushion is coming soon at Creatrix in soft and medium densities.
Strain is welcome and pain is a stop. Anyone with a spinal condition should check with a healthcare provider before starting.
PowerCushion Pelvic Tilt: Posterior Shear at L5 on L4 How the PowerCushion holds L4, frees the sacrum and turns 70 lb on the pelvis into a posterior shear of L5 on L4 that the facet joints stop.

The Spinal Fitness book explains the curves of your spine with geometry.
One of the most precise models of the adult S-shaped spine describes it as a series of 30-60-90 triangles: one along the neck curve, one along the upper back and one along the low back. The book's figure shows the same angled logic inside each disc: it labels the outer fibers at plus or minus 30 degrees and the inner fibers at plus or minus 60 degrees.
Curves carry load because they spread force through the whole spine. Each vertebra, disc and facet joint shares the work, and well-aligned joints receive force as compression, which is the stable direction.
The book puts numbers on it. In Dr. John Scherger's lever analysis, proper structure needs 77 pounds of total effort and produces 1,218 pounds of compression. Improper structure needs 1,166 pounds of effort and produces 2,708 pounds of compression. That is a 15-to-1 effort advantage for the curved spine.
The book's tools for building those curves start with the Back Trac roller, then the PowerCushion exercises, Neck Flexion, and the Spinal Twist with 18 to 20 minutes on the Neck and Back Shaper rolls.
Strain is welcome and pain is a stop. Anyone with a spinal condition should check with a healthcare provider before starting.
30-60-90 Triangle Spine Geometry: Why Curves Carry Load The Spinal Fitness book models the S-shaped spine as 30-60-90 triangles. What that geometry does to force, the 77 vs 1,166 lb comparison, and the tools.

After early adulthood, a disc relies on movement for nutrition. Compression squeezes fluid out, and decompression draws fresh fluid back in. A healthy neck curve keeps that pump running with every small movement of your head.
The book describes 5 stages and reads each one as a change in forces:
Stage 1: a good curve, normal forces, and a disc that floats and pumps.
Stage 2: the curve begins to flatten, the pump is impaired, and hydration starts to decline.
Stage 3: constant compression narrows the disc space and overloads the facet joints.
Stage 4: bone-on-bone changes, with the neighboring segments taking on extra work.
Stage 5: the segment fuses, and the focus becomes the segments above and below it.
The book states that restoring the neck curve, even partially, can reduce constant compression and bring motion back wherever motion remains possible.
Its tools for that are Neck Flexion with the Neck Shaper, 6 gentle reps 6 times a day, and the Spinal Twist followed by 18 to 20 minutes resting on the Neck and Back Shaper rolls.
The stages describe mechanics. Questions about your own neck belong with your healthcare provider.
Five Stages of Disc Degeneration: The Force Story The Spinal Fitness book traces 5 stages of cervical disc change by what the curve, facets and disc pump do at each, and where curve work fits.

At the C6-C7 joint in your neck, 3 forces hold your head up: the weight of the head, the pull of the small interspinalis muscles, and the angle of the facet joints.
The book's facet illustration labels that angle at about 35 degrees. Because the joint surface is angled, one shear force splits into 2 parts. One part presses the facets together and steadies the joint. The other part lifts the upper vertebra very slightly.
The book calls that lift the floating mechanism. It gives your disc a rhythm of compression and decompression with every small head movement, and that rhythm is how an adult disc draws in nutrients and clears waste.
A healthy neck curve keeps the rhythm going. The book's goal is proper curvature, so straightness is never the target.
Two Creatrix tools carry the book's neck steps. The Neck Shaper gives steady resistance for Neck Flexion, starting at 6 gentle nods, 6 times a day, with strain and no pain. The 7-inch Neck Shaper rolls hold the curve during the 18 to 20 minute supported rest after the Spinal Twist.
Pain, numbness, tingling, dizziness or headache spikes are the book's stop signs, and they belong in front of your healthcare provider.

If you only learn one movement from the Spinal Fitness book, the book says, make it the Sit-Up over the PowerCushion.
It is a curvature drill. The cushion holds your low back in a gentle arch while your trunk moves, so your abdominal muscles work through a supported range.
The numbers come from Dr. John Scherger's analysis in the book: with proper posture over the fulcrum, the sit-up takes 170 pounds of effort, creates 1,176 pounds of total compression across 6 lumbar joints, and zero shear. The best improper-posture model needs 388 pounds of effort.
Sit with your buttocks touching the cushion, zero gap.
Feet anchored, knees bent.
Inhale and recline to about 45 degrees, elbows bent to about 90 degrees.
Exhale and lead with your chest, rib to hip.
Recline only as far as your neck stays long and neutral. Early on that may be an inch or two, and the book calls that correct. If your spine is stiff or guarded, start with the softer cushion.
Strain is okay. Pain is a stop.
The full article walks through the setup, the numbers and the workday doses.

Your head weighs the same all day. What changes is the leverage.
The Spinal Fitness book gives the effective head load for three postures: 32 pounds with a healthy neck curve, 64 pounds with a straight neck, and 117 pounds with forward head posture. Each inch your head drifts forward adds about 10 pounds of load to your neck.
Step 4 of the book's system, Neck Flexion, trains the curve with a simple nod.
Stand tall and look up comfortably.
Rest your fingertips lightly on your cheeks for gentle resistance.
Nod slowly toward a level chin, as if agreeing with someone.
Relax, and let your hands guide your head back.
Nod, don't push. Ribs down, shoulders soft.
The starting dose is 6 reps, 6 times a day. When 6 reps no longer create muscular strain, move up to 10. Aim for muscle strain without pain, and an inch or two of movement is a fine start.
Once the pattern feels natural, the Neck Shaper gives you the same nod against steady resistance.
The full article lays out the load figures, the 8-hour shift math and the workday micro-breaks.

When you roll on the Back Trac, the full-length groove lets your spinous processes float while the two lobes support the paravertebral muscles on either side. In the Spinal Fitness book, that rolling is Step 1 of a 5-step system: 30 to 60 seconds of easy passes, or 6 to 10 slow passes, once a day, starting on the medium-density roller.
Eileen explains that your body weight over the groove realigns each vertebra segment by segment, and that every spinal joint has 16 different possible articulations. She also states that the Back Trac hydrates the spinal discs, opens up the nerve canals, stretches fascia and helps hydrate the fascial slings.
Her later progression adds a weight plate on your chest, and then the Force Applicators. The roller becomes the fulcrum for that load, and your core muscles regulate how far and how fast your trunk travels around it, so you stabilize your spine while it is moving. The book's readiness check is bracing: steady, unbraced work through Steps 1, 2 and 4 comes before any added load.
The new article walks through the book's mechanism, Eileen's progression, and the 6 muscle groups that go to work.
