Milia: What are they and how should they be removed?

Milia are small white or yellowish cysts that form when dead skin cells (keratin) become trapped beneath the skin’s surface. They are commonly found around the eyes, cheeks, nose, and forehead.

Milia are not pimples and should not be squeezed. Attempting to squeeze them will usually not remove them and may cause skin damage, irritation, inflammation, and even post-inflammatory pigmentation.

Proper removal should be performed by a qualified professional using aseptic techniques and a controlled, superficial opening of the skin to safely extract the trapped keratin.
