Joints feeling stiff? Trouble getting up and down?
Stiffness in the lower back and hips often develops when movement is limited throughout the day. Joints rely on being loaded, moved, and gently cycled through range to stay well nourished and to function efficiently.
Cartilage inside the joints does not have a direct blood supply, so it depends on movement to help circulate synovial fluid across the joint surfaces. This fluid reduces friction and supports nutrient exchange within the joint environment.
When movement is reduced for long periods, that fluid exchange slows down. This is one reason people often feel stiff or compressed after sitting.
A recent peer-reviewed study (2023) highlights how mechanical loading directly influences synovial fluid behavior and composition, reinforcing the role of movement in maintaining a healthy joint environment.
https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/36474473/
At Temple Human Performance, we use consistent, controlled movement to restore this system. Walking on the curved treadmill and corrective exercise help reintroduce repeated loading cycles that improve joint fluid exchange and neuromuscular control around the hips and spine.
supports this process by maintaining the properties of synovial fluid, helping joints move more efficiently.
Over time, this combination supports smoother movement, less stiffness, and better overall joint function.
Fitness markers like the Cooper Test can also provide a simple estimate of VOβ max, reflecting how efficiently the body uses oxygen during sustained activity. As this improves, daily movement tends to feel easier and more fluid.

The reverse lunge crossover is more than a lower body exercise.
By holding the resistance band at the center of the chest while stepping diagonally behind the body, the upper body is required to maintain stability as the lower body moves through multiple planes.
This creates a demand for core control, proprioception, and coordinated motor control while reducing unnecessary trunk compensation.
At Temple Human Performance, we use movements like this to improve the brain's ability to organize efficient movement patterns, enhance dynamic balance, and develop better control.
Rather than simply strengthening muscles, our goal is to train the nervous system to produce more efficient, resilient movement that carries over into daily activities, , and athletic .

At Temple Human Performance, table-based manual therapy is used to create a more favorable environment for movement by improving awareness, reducing compensatory patterns, and helping clients access positions that may be difficult to achieve on their own.
Here Paul is combining manual therapy and corrective movment to help build a stronger foundation for long-term movement efficiency and performance, highlighting a technique taught in our PhysioKinetix Training program- Pelvic Bridges.
Pelvic bridges encourage coordinated activation of the hips, trunk, and pelvic stabilizers. The goal is not simply to strengthen muscles, but to improve how the body organizes movement, manages load, and maintains control during everyday activities and exercise.
Many movement limitations are not caused by a lack of strength, but by how the nervous system organizes and distributes load throughout the body.
One strategy our trainers may incorporate when working with pelvic asymmetry and a left stance-dominant pattern is a band-assisted pull-up bar position. This setup helps create decompression through the trunk and pelvis while allowing the upper body to stabilize, reducing protective muscle tone and limiting common compensatory strategies.
For a left-dominant stance pattern, the goal is to improve coordination between the hips and pelvis during simple isometric holds. The band provides enough challenge to influence the system without reinforcing the same habitual movement pattern.
Research on motor control-based exercise interventions has demonstrated improvements in trunk coordination, movement efficiency, and functional stability in individuals with lumbopelvic dysfunction, supporting low-load, task-specific strategies for improving neuromuscular control. Explore this topic further here: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/35879124/
Within our clinical approach, we aim to help clients develop more balanced movement strategies, improve lumbopelvic stability, enhance load distribution through the hips and pelvis, and reduce reliance on compensatory patterns through improved neuromuscular control.
