With classrooms filling up again, it’s the perfect time for a quick reminder on how we can all help prevent the spread of head lice.

A few simple habits can make a big difference:
• Don’t share hairbrushes, combs, hats, hoodies, or hair accessories.
• Avoid head-to-head contact during play and sports.
• Keep coats and backpacks separated whenever possible.
• Check your child’s hair regularly, especially behind the ears and at the nape of the neck.
• If lice are found, treat them promptly and let the school know so other families can check too.

Remember, head lice don’t mean someone is dirty. They simply spread through close contact, and catching them early helps keep classrooms healthy.

Meet Bre Lightfoot, owner of The Velvet Root Salon in Lee’s Summit, Missouri. Two years ago, Bre and her husband Brad packed up their lives—and their six animals—and made the 1,600-mile journey from California to Kansas City.
