How do you know where to place a weft?
I LOVE this question because it's one I think we all get hung up on
A few things to take into account when determining where to place those wefts:
🖤Communication with your client- This is key in any relationship and ESPECIALLY client-stylist relationships
🖤Your client's lifestyle- How do they wear their hair day to day? Where does their ponytail sit? etc etc
🖤Stay away from the hairline- 2-3 fingers back at least
🖤Head shape- Every head is shaped differently, pay attention to your client's anatomy
🖤Method restrictions- Know your favorite methods like the back of your hand, each one SHOULD have placement guides.
Extensions can be HARD! But we don't have to be alone in the process. Let me know what questions you have in the comments and follow for more extension edu!
What would YOU name your brand if it had to sum up your whole journey?
Mine’s “Shadow and Shine” because every skill I have took wayyyyy more effort than people think, and I wanted a name that honored both the grind and the payoff.

Would you believe these wefts are 6+ months old???
Extensions are a tangible product which means they NEED maintenance over time. So when my client’s roots were processing, I used the time to refresh her wefts too:
✨ Wet them down
✨ Toned with Paul Mitchell 5CH
✨ Focused on the porous ends
✨ Let it sit 10 mins
Zero extra appointment time, and she’s ready to go!
Extensions CANNOT be a “set it and forget it” service, they’re an ongoing partnership between client and stylist.

If you’re pricing extensions off vibes, let’s sit down and do the actual math
Here’s a few key factors on what goes into hair extension pricing:
1️⃣ cost of the hair
2️⃣ experience level
3️⃣ client experience + aftercare
4️⃣ your overhead

What specialist is out here installing straight from the pack? Girl, no...
So much love and intention goes into your extensions before they ever get to you. I never do an install without washing and deep conditioning them first at the VERY least. It's non negotiable.
Here's why: Extensions arrive from the factory with a protective coating on them so that's gotta go. Besides that, I'd say about 70% of my clients need the hair's color to be altered in some fashion to get to their goal hair. It's not truly custom if I skip this important step. (or worse convince them the color it came in is "fine" or "close enough" cause I got lazy). Proper washing, conditioning, and color customization helps you hair lay better, last longer, and feel like YOURS.
These steps separate a good install from a great one. If your stylist isn't doing this, ask them WHY.
Save this for your next appointment and if you're ready for extensions done right, comment ME and lets chat 🖤
My clients aren't allowed to bring in their own hair for installation
I’m not doing it cause I need to be able to stand behind my work.
I need to know the hair was ethically sourced (livable wage, willingly given), and that things like weight distribution and scalp health were actually considered. If I don’t know the foundation, I can’t guarantee the outcome.
Cheaper hair feels like a win until you’re rebuying every two months, dealing with traction alopecia, or afraid to trust another stylist again when the real issue was the hair itself.
I’d rather tell you the truth than take your money and hope for the best. That’s the whole point of extensions. To FEEL BETTER about your hair.
👇 Let me know if you agree or if I'm out of my mind, I'm open to both 😂
if I’m not having fun, what the hell is the point? 😅
my goals for the second half of the year: teaching Strands Pro classes (yes, you can get certified through me 👀), leveling up my content, and calming the fuhhhhh down.
scary and exciting all at once. what are YOUR goals for the next few months? let’s finish the year strong together 🖤
Hair extensions should be comfortable I will absolutely die on that hill
They're not supposed to hurt, itch, feel tight, none of it. If they do, it's the stylist's job to FIX it.
Who else was told it was normal for extensions to hurt?
