I’ve been trying to come up with words to convey my history with my friend Paul Pearson who crossed over yesterday. Reading everyone else’s stories flooded me with so many great memories.
I first met Paul sometime in the late 80s. I was maybe 19 or 20. Can’t seem to remember the exact moment but my earliest memory was when he directed House at Pooh Corner at LCP. He put me in drag for the role of Owl. Paul always could bring out the most in me be it a play or one of several melodramas he directed. I always felt safe to explore and just let go under his guidance. There never was a single ounce of judgement just permission to play. Thanks for teaching me that it is okay to let my freak flag fly.
When I finished cosmetology school his late wife Annie was the first person to get a haircut from me. I’d also give Megan Lara perms in their dining room. He always championed me in everything that I did.
When I dabbled in drag under the name “Pearl Harbor” he would help me make cuts to music. I owe a lot of my theatre friendships to my relationship with Paul.

Paul, you will always be in my heart and mind. RIP or Give ‘Em Hell and say hello to Annie and Kelly for me.
