Did you know 4th of July didn't become a national Holiday until 1941? But Independence started on July 2nd, 1776. This is when the Continental Congress voted in favor of independence, and two days later delegates from the 13 colonies adopted the Declaration of Independence, a historic document drafted by Thomas Jefferson.

John Adams believed that Independence Day should be celebrated on July 2nd. He would turn down invitations to appear at July 4th events in protest. Adams and Thomas Jefferson both died on July 4, 1826—the 50th anniversary of the adoption of the Declaration of Independence.

A beautiful black swallowtail butterfly spotted on a fennel plant today. Swallowtail larvae feed on fennel. I'll have to look caterpillars on the plant. We use fennel in a few of our products for it's ability to brighten skin and hold moisture to the skin.
