There are so many reasons we can end up with them! Acne, ingrown hairs, irritation, hormones, sun exposure, picking, and more. And yes, picking at your skin and skipping your SPF can absolutely make things harder when you're trying to manage dark spots. But there's usually more to the story than just one thing. That's why figuring out what's causing your pigmentation is so important before just throwing a bunch of products at it.

Your skin barrier is made of skin cells and lipids that act like a protective wall. Its job is to:
•keep moisture IN
•keep irritants and bacteria OUT
•protect against inflammation
•reduce water loss
When people over-exfoliate, use harsh acne products, or constantly switch routines, that barrier can become damaged. A damaged barrier can actually make acne worse because inflamed skin struggles to heal properly.
