Your hair might be telling you more than you think.

Frizz can mean you need more healthy fats and hydration in your diet, not just a new conditioner or serum. Dandruff or an itchy scalp may be linked to internal imbalance rather than a product problem, which is why the same shampoo can work for one person and do nothing for another.

Thinning hair can be a sign of low iron or a hormone imbalance that has nothing to do with the products you are using on it. Postpartum shedding is not something to panic over either, it is simply your body recovering and rebalancing after a major hormonal shift, and it usually settles once your system finds its footing again.

Bald spots may point to immune stress, where your body is responding to something internal rather than anything happening on the surface. Early gray hair can also be connected to chronic stress and low nutrient levels building up quietly over time, long before you notice any change.

Most people treat these signs as separate, unrelated problems and try to fix each one on the surface with a new product or a quick routine change. But your hair is not the root cause, it is the messenger. It is reflecting what is happening internally, whether that is a nutrient gap, a hormone shift, ongoing stress, or an immune response your body is working through in the background.

Once you start reading those signals instead of only reacting to them, it becomes a lot easier to know what your body actually needs and where to start.

If any of this sounds like you, let's discuss. You can book a call with me via havenholisticsalon.com.

Your hair changes with the season, and your color routine should too.

Cooler air and lower humidity change your hair's porosity and moisture levels, which means the same color that looked perfect in July can behave completely differently by October. This is why so many women feel like their color faded fast, turned brassy, or just stopped looking the way it did a few months ago, when really their hair changed underneath it rather than the formula being wrong.

Porosity shifts matter more than most people realize. Drier, more porous hair tends to grab color faster and release it faster too, which is part of why fall color often needs a slightly different approach than the color you had done in the middle of summer. It is not that your hair is behaving badly, it is simply reacting to a different environment.

A few things worth adjusting this time of year. Ask about a gloss instead of a full color if your hair feels drier than usual, since it refreshes tone without adding extra processing to hair that is already more fragile. Swap in a heavier, more hydrating at-home routine to help offset the lower humidity. Add a heat protectant if you are blow-drying or styling more now that the weather has cooled down, since cooler air often means more indoor heat exposure, not less.

None of this means your colorist did something wrong or that you are doing your routine incorrectly. It simply means your hair's needs changed with the season, and your routine is allowed to change along with it.

If your color hasn't felt like itself lately, let's talk about what your hair actually needs this season. You can book your appointment at havenholisticsalon.com.

If you're dealing with excessive hair fall, I don't just look at your hair. I look at your gut.

Here's what I see over and over with clients. They search for one universal list of "bad foods" to cut out, expecting that to fix everything, but inflammation isn't universal. It comes down to individuality. What is inflammatory for you is not always the same as what is inflammatory for someone else, and it is rarely a single list that applies to everyone.

One of the biggest issues I see is a one-size-fits-all mindset.

→ A single checkbox list of "bad foods" for everyone

→ No account for individual gut response

→ Ignoring what your own body's signals are actually telling you

A simple rule I come back to again and again is that if it comes in a box, it's probably not good for you. Whole, real food gives your body what it actually needs to function, repair, and grow, including your hair.

Get enough protein. Vegetables. Fruit. The basics matter more than most people give them credit for. It's not complicated or trendy, it's just consistent.

Food can also be inflammatory even when it's considered healthy. Something can be nutritious on paper and still not agree with your particular gut. That's exactly why individual response matters more than any generic food list, because what heals one person's gut can quietly aggravate another's.

Hair fall is often a gut issue wearing a hair issue's clothes.

I spend very little time actually talking about the hair itself.

Most people come to me because their hair is thinning, shedding, or changing in a way they cannot explain. What they do not expect is that the conversation barely touches the hair at all. Instead, I am investigating why the hair is struggling in the first place, because the hair is almost never the actual story. It is the last symptom to show up, not the first.

Think about the dentist for a second. Nobody waits until a tooth actually hurts to go in for a checkup. The entire point of a yearly visit is catching a problem before it becomes one you can feel. Your scalp deserves that same approach, and almost nobody treats it that way.

A trichology assessment once a year works the same way a dental checkup does. I am looking at follicle density, miniaturization, inflammation, buildup, and overall scalp condition long before any of that turns into visible hair loss you would notice on your own. I am also looking at the bigger picture behind it, hormonal history, nutritional patterns, stress load, sleep, and what the past year has actually looked like physically and emotionally, because hair loss is rarely caused by one isolated thing. It is almost always the final symptom of a story that started somewhere else entirely.

This is exactly why waiting until hair loss feels obvious means waiting far longer than necessary. The follicle changes that eventually show up as visible thinning start long before you notice anything different in the mirror. Catching that shift early is the difference between a quick correction and a much longer road back.

My goal is not just to help you regrow hair once it is already gone. My goal is to catch what is happening before it ever gets to that point. Complete my trichology intake form at havenholisticsalon.com and get ahead of it while there is still time to.

Biofilm removal is not something most trichologists are trained in. I am.

Biofilm is a thin, sticky layer on the scalp made of oils, dead skin cells, microbes, and product residue. It sits on the surface and around the follicle opening, shielding what lives underneath it.

That shielding is the part people miss. Biofilm is built to resist being washed off. It is not stubborn buildup that needs a stronger shampoo, it is a structure, and structures need to be broken down rather than scrubbed at. This is why someone can wash more, wash harder, switch products three times, and still have the same scalp.

Biofilm itself is well documented in skin and wound research. What is not yet established is its role in hair loss specifically. My group is one of the only ones addressing it directly, and our founder is doing the research to change that. I would rather tell you that plainly than sell it as settled.

What I can say is this. Biofilm is buildup, and buildup sits between whatever you are applying and the scalp you are applying it to. If your protocol has been correct and nothing has moved, that gap is worth ruling out.

I trained in biofilm removal through the Holistic Practitioners of Trichology. How it forms, how to recognize it under magnification, and the protocol and tools to break it down safely without damaging the scalp underneath.

Here is what that actually looks like. I scope your scalp first, because biofilm does not show up in a normal visual check. It is not something you can see standing over someone in good lighting. If it is there, we work through it in stages rather than all at once, since the goal is a calmer scalp at the end and not an angry one.

I am not doing what your doctor does, and your doctor is not doing this. Different lanes. Mine is the scalp itself, the surface conditions that sit between a follicle and everything you are putting on it.

If your scalp has felt stuck no matter what you try, my trichology intake form is at havenholisticsalon.com.

One thing about me is I will find out.

Not in a nosy way. In a I am going to keep pulling on this thread until it makes sense way.

If your hair has been thinning, shedding, or changing and nobody has given you a real answer, that is the entire job I do.

Most women who sit in my chair have already heard a version of the same thing. It is just stress. It is just genetics. Your labs are normal. Those answers are not wrong exactly. They are just incomplete, and incomplete is why so many women leave with a product recommendation and no understanding of what is actually going on.

I got my trichology certification and then did not stop.

A lot of people treat certification as the finish line. For me it opened up how much I did not know yet. So I took a scalp course exploring how eastern medicine connects to hair health, because Chinese medicine has been reading the body as one connected system for a very long time and I wanted to understand what it sees that we miss.

I am studying nutraceuticals now. Nutrition after that. There will be something after that too.

Part of that is just how I am built. Part of it is that I have been on the other side of this. I have had my own health go sideways, and I lost hair through it. I know what it is to have something changing on your body and not get a straight answer about why.

So when you sit down with me, here is what happens. I look at your scalp under magnification. I ask about sleep, stress, hormones, nutrition, and what the past year has actually looked like for you. If you have recent bloodwork, we go through it together and I flag patterns worth raising with your doctor.

Hair does not change for no reason. Something shifted. Finding that is the whole point, because guessing is how people spend a year managing a symptom while the real driver keeps running underneath.

If something has changed and no one has explained why, my trichology intake form is at havenholisticsalon.com.

Sign up for the Community Waitlist. It's almost ready.

I built something for the women who have sat across from me feeling completely alone in this. The ones who watched more hair collect in the drain than usual and could not explain why. The ones who Googled at 2am, bought every serum and supplement that promised everything, and still walked away without an actual answer.

Maybe a doctor named it, or maybe you were told your labs are normal and it is just age, just stress, just genetics. Either way, most women leave that conversation without the one thing that actually helps: a real understanding of what is happening.

This is The Hair and Wellness Collective, a membership community built around three pillars. Body covers the physical roots, nutrient absorption, hormones, gut health, and how to recognize different types of hair loss. Mind covers the connection between stress, your nervous system, and hair. Self covers the identity work, since hair is tied to who we are in ways that get underestimated.

Inside, you get bite-sized lessons across all three pillars, a private space with women actually walking through this too, and a monthly live Q&A where you bring your real questions directly to me. This is not diagnosis or treatment. It is education and support.

When doors open, you get full access for your first 7 days free. Founding members lock in a $29 monthly rate for as long as they stay.

Sign up for the Community Waitlist. It's almost ready.

I have spent years sitting across from women who came in for a hair appointment and left having told me everything. The doctor who rushed them out in ten minutes. The labs that came back normal with no further explanation. The quiet fear of watching something change and not knowing why. There was never a place I could send them afterward to keep learning, so I decided to build one.

This is The Hair and Wellness Collective, built around three pillars. Body covers the physical roots of hair loss, nutrient absorption, hormones, gut health, and how to actually recognize different types of hair loss. Mind covers the connection between stress, the nervous system, and hair, since that loop runs in both directions. Self covers the identity work, since hair is tied to who we are in ways that get underestimated.

Inside, everything is bite-sized. Short lessons across all three pillars, a private space to connect with other women living this too, and a monthly live Q&A where you bring your real questions directly to me.

This is not a product and it is not a promise of regrowth. It is education, structure, and community for women ready to actually understand what is happening.

Extension work does not end when you leave the chair.

The service gets all the attention, the placement, the blend, the color match. But aftercare is just as important as the technique, and it is the piece most clients underestimate until something goes wrong later.

How extensions are cared for at home determines how long they last and how healthy your natural hair stays underneath them. Extensions should be brushed from the ends first, working up toward the root, using a loop brush or extension-safe brush designed to avoid pulling at the bonds.

Sleeping with wet hair is one of the most common causes of matting at the root, since wet hair tangles more easily right at the bond. Washing frequency matters too. Extensions generally need to be washed less often than natural hair alone, and always with the head tilted back rather than forward in the shower.

A sulfate-free shampoo protects both the bonds and the hair itself, while a lightweight leave-in conditioner focused on the mid-lengths and ends maintains moisture without weighing anything down. Heavy oils at the root should be avoided, since they can loosen bonds over time.

This is why I go over aftercare in detail at every placement appointment. Extensions are only as good as the maintenance behind them.

If you are considering extensions and want a plan that includes real aftercare guidance, head to havenholisticsalon.com, fill out the new guest form, and book your complimentary 15-minute Hair + Wellness Discovery Call immediately after. That is where we begin.
