Not all soaps are created equal. The difference is in the ingredients. What you find in most stores isn’t true soap at all . True artisan soap is simply a combination of natural fats and an alkali- lye- . Lye also known as sodium hydroxide, is a compound derived from salt .
The inexpensive soap you find at the market is typically made with synthetic detergent and cleansers. It often contains sodium lauryl sulfate and other harsh chemicals that disrupt the skin natural pH balance, triggering irritation that can lead to acne , eczema and other skin concerns.
Handcrafted soap, on the other hand is intentionally formulated with skin loving ingredients like olive oil, Shea butter, cacao butter, sweet almond oil, castor oil, coconut oil, essential oils, clays and more .
Yes ours bars costs more than the $2.00 bar at the store. And yes , the store bar will last longer and that’s because it’s detergent with hardeners and preservatives. The artisan soap bar is made with real ingredients. No fillers . It may not last as long in the shower but it will last on your skin . And you can pronounce everything on the label.
Another thing, when soap is freshly made, saponification ( the reaction between natural fats and lye) is complete, but the bar is still soft and full of water! When we talk about the 4 to 7 weeks cure time , it’s to allow excess water to slowly evaporate: this does 3 important things:
1- it makes the bar harder and longer lasting
2- it makes it milder meaning that during curing the pH gently drops and any remaining lye becomes completely neutralized, making the soap much gentler on your skin.
3- it makes a better lather. À fully cured bar produces a richer , creamier , more stable lather.
Soap makers never rush this process!
It’s what makes true soap safe, mild and luxurious.
