Yesterday during Garden Club we harvested mountain mint! Many people have asked about it and how to use it, so here's some information about the plant...
---------------------------------
This plant IS part of the mint family, but does not smell or taste like the common spear- or peppermint. Instead, mountain mint is part of a different genus (or "group") and has a much more earthy or savory flavor; some have described this flavor as similar to thyme.
---------------------------------
You can use this plant's leaves fresh or dry in cooking or in making teas. Traditional medicinal uses for this plant are to treat headaches, colds, fevers, and upset stomach.
We currently have this plant on our produce cart at the Gerald L. Ignace Indian Health Center, Inc.. Stop by and grab some to use before it's gone tomorrow between 9am-6pm in the clinic's lobby!
