Setting a boundary doesn’t mean you stopped loving someone.

Sometimes boundaries are necessary because you care about the relationship and because you care about yourself within it.

A boundary might sound like:
“I want to talk about this, but not while we’re yelling.”
“I’m not able to take that on right now.”
“I love spending time with you, but I need some time to myself today.”
“I’m not comfortable discussing that.”

Boundaries aren’t about controlling what another person does. They’re about being clear about what you need, what you’re comfortable with, and how you’ll respond when a line is crossed.

You can care deeply about someone and still make room for yourself.

Survival mode isn’t always obvious.

You may still be getting everyone where they need to go. Showing up to work. Answering texts. Making dinner. Keeping appointments.
From the outside, everything may look completely normal.

But internally, you might feel like you’re constantly bracing for the next thing.

If that feels familiar, start by getting curious about what your mind and body have been asking for.

A little more rest? Support? Connection? Quiet? Something to look forward to?

Sometimes making room for life again begins with noticing how long you’ve been simply getting through it.

Forgiveness and reconciliation are not the same thing.

Forgiveness can be something you work toward within yourself. Reconciliation involves rebuilding a relationship—and that requires safety, accountability, trust, and effort from more than one person.

You are allowed to let go of some of the anger, hurt, or weight you’ve been carrying without giving someone the same access to you they once had.
Sometimes healing looks like repairing a relationship.
Sometimes it looks like accepting what happened, creating a boundary, and moving forward differently.

Release doesn’t always mean return. And both can be part of healing.

Mental health care doesn’t begin and end with a therapy appointment.

It’s also found in the small choices we make every day; the boundaries we set, the rest we allow, the support we accept, and the way we speak to ourselves when things feel heavy.

And it won’t look the same for everyone.

On World Mental Health Day, we hope you’ll take a moment to check in with yourself without judgment.
What have you been carrying?
What could you release?
Where do you need rest?
What would you like to make a little more room for?

You don’t have to have all the answers today. Sometimes noticing is enough of a place to begin. 🤎

It’s the little things that make people feel seen. 🤎

Welcoming a new client into Summerlane isn’t just about getting them on the schedule and through the door. Mendy has always had such a heart for making people feel celebrated, cared for, and genuinely welcome from the very beginning.

Sometimes that looks like a listening ear. Sometimes it’s remembering the little things. And sometimes it’s a special gift bag waiting for you at your first visit. 🥹

Because at Summerlane, you’re never just another name on the calendar. You’re a person we’re really glad is here.

Recovery has a rhythm, but it doesn’t have a timeline. 🤍

This National Recovery Month, we’re celebrating every step forward, every new beginning, and every person finding their way at their own pace.

It all counts. Keep going.

You don’t have to be in crisis to know something needs to change.

Maybe you’ve been feeling disconnected from yourself.

Maybe you keep falling into the same patterns, even though you know they aren’t serving you anymore.

Maybe you know what you want your life to feel like…you just can’t seem to figure out how to get from here to there.

Or maybe you’re simply tired of feeling stuck.

That’s why Unstuck & Unstoppable exists.

It’s a space to slow down, look at what’s keeping you where you are, build practical tools, and begin taking intentional steps toward what’s next, alongside other women doing the same.

You don’t need to have it all figured out before you walk through the door.

You just have to be ready to start. 🤍

Unstuck & Unstoppable begins this Friday! More details in “Events Highlight” on our page.

Sometimes behavior IS the message.

A meltdown, shutting down, arguing, clinging, or refusing to cooperate can be frustrating in the moment. But before focusing only on stopping the behavior, it can help to get curious about what might be underneath it.

Try the PAUSE check-in:
P — Pause before reacting. Give yourself a second before jumping straight to correction.
A — Ask what changed. Are they hungry? Tired? Overstimulated? Disappointed? Anxious? Out of routine?
U — Understand the need. They may be looking for connection, reassurance, space, control, or help regulating.
S — Say what you notice: “You seem really frustrated right now...That didn’t go the way you wanted it to...It looks like today feels like a lot."
E — Engage from there. Once they feel seen, you can work together on what happens next.

Understanding a behavior doesn’t mean there aren’t boundaries or consequences. It simply gives us more information about what a child may need in that moment.

Save this for the next time you find yourself wondering, “Why are they acting like this?” 🤍

In July, Summerlane’s owner, Memendra, had the honor of serving on the Mental Health Care Providers Panel at the BIPOC Mental Health Awareness Summit. 🤎

Opportunities like this are especially meaningful to us because they reflect so much of what Summerlane stands for: creating conversations, building connections, and making mental health support more accessible within our communities.

The work doesn’t stop inside the therapy room. Showing up, sharing knowledge, and being part of important conversations like these are all ways we can continue supporting meaningful change beyond our walls.

We’re so grateful for events like this and for the opportunity to have a seat at the table. 🌿
