This isn't a willpower bootcamp.

If you've cut calories, added workouts and still feel stuck, it may not be your effort. Thyroid, insulin, cortisol and hormone shifts can all work against you.

That's why medical weight management at CHS Hormone starts with labs. From there, we balance what's out of range and build nutrition around your body and your life, so the plan actually holds.

You've tried hard enough. Let's try smarter.

Episode 8 of Balanced: A Patient Diary.

This one surprised me. My weight has been shifting, and those stubborn pounds are coming off. I wasn't told to change a thing to make that happen.

I noticed it in my clothes first. My jeans fit differently before the scale moved much, and my workouts feel stronger. More in the tank, less dragging afterward.

Everyone's body responds differently, so this is just my experience. If stubborn weight around the middle sounds familiar, ask about your hormones at your next visit.

What surprised you most when you started hormones? Tell me below.

☀️ "I'm in the sun all the time. Why is my vitamin D low?" We hear this multiple times a week. Here's what gets in the way:

Your tan. Melanin filters out UVB, the rays your skin uses to make vitamin D.
🧴 Sunscreen, clothing and glass all block UVB too.
⏳ Age and hormones. Skin makes less vitamin D as we get older, especially through perimenopause and menopause.
🩺 Absorption. Gut health, low magnesium and body fat can keep levels low even with plenty of sun.

Supplementing? Vitamin D3 works best with partners: K2 helps direct calcium where it belongs, and taking it with a meal that has healthy fat, like omega-3s, helps your body absorb it.

The only way to know your level is to test it. Ask us at your next visit or book a consultation: https://chshormone.com/

So let's talk about the 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗲.

I take it at bedtime for a reason. Oral progesterone tends to make you drowsy, and for a lot of women in perimenopause, that helps with falling asleep and staying asleep. As your body breaks it down, it makes a compound that works on GABA, the same calming pathway that helps you wind down.

What I've noticed: fewer 3 a.m. wake-ups and less lying there running through tomorrow's list.

It has another job too. If you take estrogen, progesterone helps protect the uterine lining, which is why many women on estrogen take both.

If sleep is what's wearing you down, bring it up at your next visit. Book a consultation at the link in bio.

Your health is more than one symptom. And your care should be, too.

At Charleston Hormone Services, we take a whole-body approach to helping you feel your best.

That starts by looking deeper. Through extensive lab testing and an in-depth consultation, we take the time to understand your medical history, lifestyle, symptoms and personal health goals — not just a single number on a lab report.

From there, we build a personalized plan around three pillars of care: hormone health, wellness and aesthetics.

Whether you're navigating changing hormones, working toward better metabolic health, addressing thyroid or weight concerns, or simply looking for ways to feel more confident and more like yourself, our goal is to meet you where you are.

One practice. A personalized plan. A whole-body approach.

What does "bioidentical" actually mean? 🌿

Bioidentical hormones are chemically identical to the hormones your body naturally produces. They can be made from plant-based sources and come in different forms, like estradiol, progesterone, and testosterone.

Depending on the hormone and formulation, they may be FDA-approved or compounded.

At CHS Hormone, your hormone, dose, and delivery method are personalized to you, based on your symptoms, health history, goals, and preferences. The goal is simple: help you feel your best while keeping treatment as safe as possible.

Balanced: A Patient Diary. Week One 💙

One week on my testosterone pellet. I'm holding off on progesterone for now, one thing at a time, so I can see how this alone makes me feel.

Days two through seven, I could not believe it. More energy than I can remember having. No coffee needed, and at the end of the day I actually want to go for a run.

Follow along as I share how it's going, week by week.

Everyone's experience is different. Talk to your provider at CHS Hormone about what's right for you.

Tired of under-eyes that look tired?

PDGF (platelet-derived growth factor) is a regenerative treatment designed to support your skin’s natural production of collagen and elastin, helping improve the appearance and quality of the delicate skin under the eyes over time.

Unlike traditional filler, which adds volume, PDGF works by supporting your skin’s own regenerative processes - making it an option for patients looking for a more natural approach to under-eye rejuvenation.

Results can continue to develop over time and may last 6–12 months or longer, depending on the individual.

Curious if PDGF is right for you? Request a consultation through the link in our bio or call 843.508.8123.

Hello and Happy 2026 from the Practitioners at CHS 💖

As we embark on a new year.. this is your reminder to prioritize your health appointments for the year. Routine health screenings save lives—and they’re a cornerstone of proactive, preventive care.

Mammograms and Pap smears help detect breast and cervical changes early. PSA lab checks can identify prostate concerns before symptoms appear. Bone density testing helps assess fracture risk and detect osteoporosis early. Colorectal screenings such as Cologuard® and colonoscopy play a critical role in identifying colon cancer and precancerous changes.

These tests aren’t just recommendations—they’re powerful tools for early detection, risk reduction, and long-term health.

Have questions about which screenings are right for you? Ask CHS Hormone.
If you’re an established patient and would like us to order any of these screening tests for you, please contact our office—we’re happy to help guide you every step of the way. 📝
