Had to make a special post for my girl Chloe today as she is off to Ohio State for her first year of college! And what better way to prepare for this new season than with a fresh cut!?

Chloe has been finding joy this summer, preparing to go to college while also spending quality time with her friends and family before leaving. Joy is NOT always easy...

This story is so special to me, and to protect the privacy of my client, I am going to refer to my new friend as "Sunshine." 🌞

Ms. Sunshine came in last week, burdened with months of neglect to her hair. She fell into a deep depression after the unexpected death of her partner and has since been working through the exhausting process of grief & healing. Any of us who have been through this knows that this process is not linear, but something like a rollercoaster. Some days are easier than others.

The first step to anything we are nervous to start is always the hardest. I was so proud of Sunshine for taking that first step with me to untangle her matted hair! We spent 15 hours collectively (4 appoinments) in the salon detangling, but once we got the bottom section free, Sunshine was empowered to work on it more at home! Our last appoinment was dedicated to a good scalp cleanse, trim, and style! 🫧💆‍♀️💇‍♀️🤩

SIDE NOTE: This is community!! The act of helping your neighbor when they are in a low place can help encourage them to take further steps in healing, progress, or achieving goals they felt they couldn't reach! 💕

Sunshine & I have both been choosing joy in this process-knowing that it's okay to hold both healing and grief in the same space. A hands-on way that she finds peace and comfort is in nature, specifically going down to the Ohio River! 🏞️🌿

What is "The Joy Chair" and why the change??

As I am getting closer to graduating from cosmetology school, I've been thinking more about what I want my mission to be in the salon. Simply put, I want my chair to be a place where we can find joy in the midst of all life's up's & down's!

My faith in Jesus Christ is the biggest part of my life and the call on my life to be a light in this world. Choosing joy isn't always easy but dang it, let's choose it together because this world is too crazy to go it alone!!! 😂💕
