Grand opening Brickyard HairCuttery 🄳

I spent two magical weekends with a team I know will make a huge impact in their community! Welcome to the fam ✨

(Keep swiping to see all the dogs I met. There’s a vet in the same complex)

Kinda iconic that this was Penelope’s first concert.

Quick weekend recap:

šŸš™Visited Wahl Barber Academy and spoke to their students about how barbers shine in our salons.
šŸŽTaught four classes including cutting, clipper, color, and formulation.

Biggest wins from my learners:
ā–«ļøBackground and tone for Redken color formulation
ā–«ļøElevation = softness
ā–«ļøAngle of clipper trajectory
ā–«ļøBottle retouch application
ā–«ļø Smooth blowouts with a curl finish

Getting ready for our Grand Opening at Hair Cuttery Brickyard šŸŽŠ

Tomorrow starts training, but today was spent getting their color bar set up exactly like their litho chart to make formulation simple and organized.

I’ve done some bad haircuts šŸ™ˆ

and that’s okay. Figuring out what not to do helps teach us what to do. Here are four things I wish I knew when I started:

1. If you’re adding layers to someone who has a lot of length, overdirect (overdirection preserves length)
2. Don’t cut on your cross-check (you’ll end up making yourself a new guide)
3. Sometimes your guide looks off because you changed your elevation (redistribute the hair while being mindful of your elevation.)
4. It’s okay to find a picture of a haircut that suits your guest’s hair type better (density, texture, etc) (this gives a more realistic visual for your guest)

So, how do you know you have buildup? Do you ever catch yourself saying:
āŒā€œmy products just don’t work anymoreā€
āŒā€œmy wave pattern is lacking definitionā€
āŒā€œI’m conditioning, but my hair still feels dryā€

These are all symptoms of buildup. A clarifying shampoo every now and then, or a treatment in Salon can make a huge difference on the performance of your products, your wave or curl pattern, and the overall texture of your hair.

If I needed someone in my corner, I called Tanya.

If I needed client advice, I called Tanya.

If I wanted sushi, Tanya and I would split a roll with fried rice in the back offices.

Words will never fully cover just how much of an impact you had on everyone around you. You had my back professionally and when I wanted to take my hair across the color wheel. You never let me quit. You were relentless, driven, and undeniable. I feel so grateful to call you my friend, mentor, and Friday night dinner date. Miss you, honey šŸ’”
