Perimenopause symptoms can show up long before your periods stop.
Anxiety that seems to come out of nowhere. Changes in mood. Brain fog. Trouble sleeping. Feeling less resilient, more irritable, or simply not quite like yourself.
For many women, the hormonal fluctuations of perimenopause can affect emotional well-being in significant ways. And when you don't understand why you're feeling this way - or when a healthcare provider doesn't recognize the connection - it can be easy to wonder whether you're doing something wrong.
You're not.
Good perimenopause care should include mental health. That means connecting with a medical provider who is knowledgeable about menopause alongside a therapist who understands how hormonal changes can interact with anxiety, mood, sleep, relationships, identity, and the demands of midlife.
Women deserve providers who listen, take these changes seriously, and understand that perimenopause is about much more than hot flashes.

Trauma-informed therapy should help you feel safer and more in control - not less.
That means your therapist explains what you're doing and why. They ask before moving into difficult material. They pay attention to when you're becoming overwhelmed. And you have a real say in what you talk about, how quickly you move, and when you need to stop.
Trauma therapy doesn't require telling every detail of what happened, and healing doesn't follow a fixed timeline.
At its core, trauma-informed care recognizes that experiences of helplessness, fear, or loss of control should not be recreated in the therapy room. Good trauma treatment builds safety, trust, choice, and a sense of agency - and then helps you move toward the life you want to be living.

Grief doesn't follow a predictable path.
It can look like sadness, anger, numbness, relief, longing, distraction - or even moments of genuine happiness in the middle of missing someone deeply. There is no correct sequence and no timeline for when grief should feel "better."
Over time, many people find that their relationship with grief changes. A loss can remain deeply meaningful without feeling equally painful every day. Memories may bring comfort at times and sadness at others. Anniversaries, places, songs, family traditions, or ordinary moments can bring grief back when you least expect it.
Therapy isn't about helping you "move on" from someone you loved. It can offer a place to understand what the loss means, make room for complicated feelings, and figure out how to keep living while carrying something important with you.
If you're grieving - whether the loss is recent or happened years ago - you don't have to wait until you're struggling to ask for support.

Weโre excited to announce that our therapeutic tabletop role-playing groups are back this fall at IMPACT! ๐ฒโจ
The group was very popular during our last round, and weโre thrilled to offer two options/days beginning in September 2026:
๐ง Brave New Realms - Ages 9-13
Tuesdays OR Thursdays, 4:00-5:30 PM
This is a 10-week, in-person social skills groups led by Juno VanWeelden, LCAT-LP, P-RDT, a Creative Arts Therapist and experienced Game Master.
Through collaborative tabletop role-playing, kids get to practice skills like social connection, self-expression, problem solving, distress tolerance, self-advocacy, emotional regulation, conflict resolution, and leadership - all while creating characters, navigating challenges, and having fun with peers.
No tabletop role-playing experience is necessary, and we especially welcome neurodivergent kids who are looking for a place to connect with peers in a supportive, engaging environment.
๐ IMPACT Psychological Services, Fishkill, NY
๐ฐ $75/session or $700 for the full 10-week series

Trauma treatment for teenagers and young adults has changed significantly. EMDR is now recognized as an evidence-based treatment for PTSD, and it is increasingly used with younger clients.
One reason it fits this age group well: EMDR does not require the person to describe their trauma in detail out loud. That matters for teens who feel embarrassed, protective of family members, or simply out of language for what happened. Because EMDR targets specific memories, meaningful shifts can happen within a manageable number of sessions.
If you are considering EMDR for your family, we would be glad to talk.

By the time a serious athlete is in their teens or twenties, athletics has usually become a defining part of who they are. That commitment is what makes high-level performance possible. It is also what makes an athlete vulnerable in ways that are easy to miss.
When identity narrows to a single role, a missed play becomes evidence about who the person is. Good mental performance work is not about caring less. It is about making sure that when athletics ends, the person is still there, whole and reachable.
