Scientists unearthed the oldest mummies in the world and they’re no where near Egypt This incredible find was published last week in PNAS “Earliest evidence of smoke-dried mummification: More than 10,000 years ago in southern China and Southeast Asia” and is a cumulative of work starting in 2017 Human remains found across SE Asia and China exhibited signs of a mummification process through burning - smoking the deceased over an open fire over a prolonged period to preserve the body. The remains have been dated from 4000 all the way to 14,000 years old. What’s amazing is we’ve now seen mummification as a death ritual in various ancient communities across the world. Scientists in Japan have created the first UNIVERSAL blood (and it’s about time). Here’s why 👇 Only 50% of Americans actually know their blood type and only 7% are O-negative universal blood donors. It’s a problem. But Japanese scientists have now possibly cracked a decades-old problem: they’ve created artificial blood that works for ANYONE, regardless of blood type. No more dying while waiting for compatible blood. The breakthrough? They extracted oxygen-carrying hemoglobin from expired donor blood and wrapped it in a protective shell that removes all the stuff that causes blood to be incompatible in the first place. Human trials started in March 2025 with 16 volunteers with successful results: good oxygen delivery with minimal side effects Your blood type shouldn’t determine if you survive an emergency. NASA BREAKING NEWS!! NASA just announced what might be the biggest step towards answering if there is life outside of Earth. The Perseverance Rover spotted some interesting “leopard spots” on a Martian rock last year. After a year long analysis, NASA finally published their findings in Nature this week. Acting NASA administrator Sean Duffy believes “this could possibly be the clearest sign of life we’ve ever found on Mars, which is incredibly exciting.” These leopard spots are possibly bio signatures from ancient microbes leftover from a muddy nutrient rich lakebed 3 billion years ago Scientists haven’t ruled out the possibility these spots came about through non-biological processes, but so far the evidence suggests it’s more likely biological in nature The only way to really find out for sure is to bring these rock samples back to Earth for further analysis with even more sensitive equipment.
