First State Floats

This group of humans right here reminds me that the future is bright.

While Ms. Madison is home from school for the summer, she stepped right back into Floats, rallied the team, led the charge, and made sure everything was taken care of while I was away. Today I walked into a space that had been cared for with pride, teamwork, laughter, cooperation, and a whole lot of heart.

They took charge. They coordinated. They gave Floats the proper deep clean it deserved. And somewhere in the middle of all that hard work, they were also planning our summer team moments, potluck dinners, outings, adventures, and time together beyond the walls of the studio.

Because somewhere along the way, a team becomes family.

This summer is also a season of new chapters. Ms. Brooklyn leaves at the end of the summer for her first year at UD. Ms. Alisha is preparing to travel and study abroad. We’re welcoming new members into our Floats Family, including Fady, who is studying at Towson University, and Ms. Olivia as she begins her senior year.

This is our future.
These are the humans who give me hope and faith in humanity.

As a small family business, there are moments that remind you it’s never just about the work. It’s about the people. It’s about watching young people show up, take ownership, support one another, dream big, and care deeply.

Whether you’re with us for a season or a chapter, we’re grateful to be part of your journey.

A few days ago, Ms Brooklyn asked me what she should get her dad for Father’s Day.

Without hesitation, I responded, “Time”

She laughed and said, “but we play Rock Band together all the time.”

I smiled and explained that’s not quite what I meant. You see, there’s one thing more valuable, more cherished, more wasted than anything else in the universe we all share: time. It’s the one thing we cannot ever get back or create more of.

The daily distractions of life have a way of stealing it from us. Work, school, responsibilities, these magical little electronic devices, life…. We spend so much of our lives thinking about what comes next that we forget to fully experience what is happening right now.

What I was encouraging wasn’t another afternoon on the calendar. It was presence. Undivided attention. An evening playing mini golf, ice cream, a walk with no destination, a conversation about life, dreams, lessons learned, and hopes for the future. A chance to simply be together.

When I look back on the moments that have meant the most in my life, they aren’t the grand events or major milestones. They are the quiet moments that seemed ordinary at the time. The moments that become memories before we realize how important they are.

So this Father’s Day, my wish for all of us is simple.

Give Dad your time. Because your presence is one of the greatest gifts you’ll ever have to give. 💙

One of the greatest joys of being a small family business is having the privilege to watch young people grow, pursue their dreams, and discover where life is calling them. Today we’re incredibly proud to celebrate Ms. Brooklyn and her graduation. 🎓🎉

Since joining our Floats Family in September 2024, Brooklyn has become more than a team member. With her creativity, kindness, and welcoming spirit, she has touched the lives of guests, coworkers, and families throughout our community.

Many of you know Brooklyn as the creative heart behind our Family Paint Nights, where she shares her love of art and helps families connect, create, and make lasting memories together. Her ability to make guests feel comfortable picking up a paintbrush, regardless of skill level, reflects the same warmth and encouragement she brings to everything she does.

This fall, Brooklyn will begin an exciting new chapter at the University of Delaware, where she plans to study Medical Diagnostics, with hopes to join AFROTC to pursue her dream of becoming an Air Force physician.

Brooklyn, thank you for sharing your gifts, your creativity, and your heart with our Floats Family. We are incredibly proud of all you’ve accomplished and are excited to watch you next chapter unfold.

The future is bright, and we have a feeling you’re just getting started. 💙

It’s a day to honor the men and women of our armed forces who never made it home. The ones who gave their lives in service to something greater than themselves, and in doing so, helped preserve the freedoms we often move through our day without even thinking about them.

The freedom to slow down.
To sit around a table together.
To hold our children close.
To laugh.
To rest.
To build a life of our own choosing.

There’s something humbling about that when you really let it sink in. We talk often about presence… about stepping out of the noise long enough to reconnect with what truly matters. Today feels like one of those moments. A reminder not to rush past gratitude.

So wherever this day finds you, we hope you take a quiet moment to reflect and remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice for this country and the people in it.

There’s something deeply sacred about the love of a mother.

Every one of us entered this world the same way… through her strength, her sacrifice, her love. Before you stood on your own two feet, she carried you… her energy, her body, her heart… so you could open your eyes and experience the world.

Most of what a mom does, no one ever sees. And she does it anyway.

A Mother’s love, the first love you ever received. The love that doesn’t forget, never quits, never lets go, even when we do. Your first fan, and your biggest.

We don’t thank them enough. We can’t. But today is a reminder to slow down and see her. Not only today, every day, see her, thank her, hug her, and love her well.

To all the mothers, grandmothers, stepmother’s, mamas to be, and all women who nurture and care for others with the same boundless love… we honor you today.
