Color by Heather
After working for Douglas J for 18+ years specializing in hair color I have had to take a leave to care for my son.
For now this page will be for updates on my son.

I continue to be overwhelmed by the outpouring love and support every one has given to Nolan and my family.
Douglas J has sent me cards that were sent or dropped off by guest and recently I received a check from donations they collected on my behalf. I can’t express in words how grateful I am for all of your generosity.
I apologize for not reaching out to everyone directly who have sent me cards, please know how thankful I am to all of you. The kind loving words filled my heart, the gift cards and generous donations have helped ease financial stress allowing me to spend the precious time I have with Nolan.
In June we celebrated Nolan ending his 6week round of radiation, his 16th birthday along with being baptized surrounded by his friends and family 🙏
Despite having some set backs from weaning off steroids and getting a stomach bug we have been doing our best to enjoy this time we have with his symptoms lifted.
We head back to U of M next week to have his first MRI after radiation and discuss possible treatment options.
Please continue the prayers, know they have worked and I have felt Gods love, guidance and support through all of this.
I will forever be thankful to all of you❤️

After Nolan’s diagnosis was confirmed from a biopsy we had a very difficult conversation on our last night at the hospital, as he navigated through his emotions, his questions and fears. He went on to share what he wanted to do with his time left and what he would miss most of all, music!
I will forever be thankful to Make a wish and to Flea for making his wish come true! We got stuck in traffic and Flea still made the time to see us and even allowed time after the show to say goodbye. The show was amazing and the best part was watching Nolan experience his first concert.
Thank you Flea for giving my boy the best night of his life❤️

Miss all my Douglas J fam and guest so much❤️ I wanted to give you all a update on Nolan.
Last Saturday Nolan had the opportunity to experience prom even though he is just a freshman🥹
His amazing group of friends and parents arranged everything from a meet up for pictures, to a party bus to the prom and dessert at BJ’s after ❤️
He said it was the best day of his life!
So thankful to all that made that night happen!
Nolan is currently undergoing radiation treatments, the plan is 6weeks of radiation 5 days a week, we are in our second week. We are hopeful radiation will help give Nolan his body back and relief from his symptoms.
Yesterday after speaking to his radiologist we are hopeful that we could get 5-6 months of relief after treatment and my goal is to pack in as much fun as we can in that time!
I continue to be overwhelmed by the love and generosity we have been blessed with by so many🙏❤️

Nolan surprised me with a dance request, we both love the Red Hot Chili Peppers. I’m so thankful this was captured❤️

On April 6th I made the decision we could no longer wait on on referrals and Drs. I brought him into the emergency room at Mott’s Children’s hospital in Ann Arbor where with in a few hours my world was turn upside down.
My son Nolan was diagnosed with a rare brain tumor that has invaded his brain stem with no options of removal or a cure despite their research and trials. We were blessed to be at the 3rd leading research hospital for this exact tumor and have an amazing team of Dr’s caring for him. They will not be able to free him of us but or hope is to get more time and relief from his symptoms. Today a shunt was put in to drain the fluid building up in his brain and we hope to start radiation with in a week to shrink it for some time.
Without hesitation I made the decision to take a leave from work, he needs me and I need every moment I have left with him.
I will miss all my amazing guest and my family. I have been with Douglas J for 18 years and thankful all the seasons of life it has seen me through. I am forever thankful for those break room laughs, talks and the cries, I love you all my DJ fam❤️
To my guest thank you for trusting me with not only your hair but with your stories, your happiness and even your grief. Know you were never just a client, I carried you in my thoughts and prayers when needed, I took great pride in trying to leave you feeling better then you were when you came in. It was never just about the hair ❤️
