It’s that time of year for venison steaks!
I grew up with fresh game and fish so I enjoy the taste, but I know it’s not for everyone. Marinating can help as the meat is lean. I typically just do a drizzle of avocado oil then season. I cover them until the last few minutes so they truly stay pretty tender (and these were already a good cut of meat).
Benefits of venison: high protein, lower fat, typically closer to organic, more B vitamins and more heart healthy than other meats.
If you have a hunter in your family or friend group, ask about trying some of the meat!
Benefits of hunting: time in nature to unwind, relax, breathe in some fresh air, go for a walk, visit, and possibly get some meat.

It’s the season for all the pumpkin things! 🎃
My daughter asked for roasted pumpkin seeds so I bought a pie pumpkin so we can have the roasted pumpkin for a future use. It’s in the oven now smelling delicious.
Do you like pumpkin? What’s your favorite pumpkin recipe?
Pumpkin is rich in beta carotene, vitamin A, and fiber!

These were delicious!! 🎃 I made a baked version, but there’s a no bake version in this week’s newsletter that is similar. They’re both gluten, dairy, refined sugar free.
PUMPKIN BARS
INGREDIENTS
½ cup pumpkin puree
½ cup almond butter (I used homemade pecan butter)
⅓ cup honey
2 large eggs
2 teaspoons pumpkin pie spice
1 teaspoon baking powder
¼ teaspoon sea salt
INSTRUCTIONS
Preheat oven to 350ºF and lightly grease an 8-inch square pan (I obviously don’t follow directions 😁). Press a piece of parchment paper into the bottom of the pan to guarantee easy removal later (this would have been helpful but I forgot).
In a large bowl, combine the pumpkin, almond butter, honey, eggs, pumpkin pie spice, salt, and baking powder. Stir until very smooth, then pour the prepared pan.
Bake at 350°F for 25 to 30 minutes, or until the bars rise in the center and no longer jiggle when you shake the pan. (Note: Glass pans might require five more minutes of cooking; metal pans will cook faster and more evenly.)
Let the bars cool completely in the pan, or for at least 1 hour. Then slice and serve.

Are you a snacker? Do you reach for something every few hours? Are you ACTUALLY hungry when you do or is it out of habit or boredom? 🤔
Did you know SAD (seasonal affective disorder) can happen in summer too?! 🌞
This summer was particularly rough on us with the constant high temps, so if you’ve been feeling a bit more on edge, stressed, having trouble with sleep, noticing low energy or motivation, you are not alone!!
What can help? Sticking with your routine, stay cool and comfortable, enjoy indoor activities or outdoor at the right time of day, talk about it with a friend, and try not to spend too much time doomscrolling. 👀 And thankfully autumn is coming soon!!! 🍁

Recipe time! 🍓🥥
Here's a yummy way to use up the last of the summer strawberries! This recipe is dairy free (coconut yogurt) and sugar free (unsweetened yogurt) but still super rich and delicious.
If you want to increase the protein: look for a protein coconut yogurt (just watch for added sugars!) or a Greek yogurt if doing dairy or you can add up to a scoop of your favorite protein powder ( add a little coconut milk if needed to thin it out a bit).
