For the sake of transparency because that's how we do it here, I just wanted to put it out there that quite a few of my videos from several months ago just started being run as ads by a couple different brands without my permission or knowledge. This means the videos are marked as a paid partnership but I wanted to make it very clear that in no way was I compensated to make these videos, I'm currently not being compensated for my videos being used as ads, and again I did not give permission for any of my videos to be run as ads. I do not let anyone run my videos as ads. So I'm currently working to figure out how they are doing that and how to stop it.

Eight years in the serving industry, and this is the kind of check that makes you stop and think.

A table of two. Prime rib, full service. The final bill was $106.36, and they left a $10 tip.

I understand there was already an 18% service charge included. But that charge doesn’t go directly into my pocket. I’m still making $2.13 an hour, and for servers like me, tips are a major part of our income.

What makes it harder is that the table seemed to go great. Drinks stayed full, the timing was right, the energy was good, and there were no complaints. You walk away thinking the guests were happy with the experience.

Then you see the tip.

It’s not about one table. It’s about what happens when it keeps happening. Customers may enjoy the food, attention, and service without realizing how a server’s pay actually works behind the scenes.

Service charges and tips are two different things. For many of us, tips are what we rely on to make a living.

And having to explain that over and over again? That’s the part that really wears you down.
