Lightening can temporarily cause redness or sensitivity—especially when you’re working close on the scalp. That doesn’t automatically mean the scalp is damaged or that something went wrong.

Listen, I get it—bleach can be scary. But sometimes you have to address the history in the hair.

This was her first appointment with me, and I played it safe by toning instead of removing the buildup left from previous services. The result? Her roots were clean and white, but the mids/ends were still yellow underneath, so I had to tone them much ashier just to make everything look even. And we don’t want that in my chair.

At her next appointment, we used lightener + 5 vol on the ends to safely remove that old buildup and create a clean canvas.

Because you can’t tone your way out of buildup. 👀

Your round brush should NOT be the first thing touching soaking wet hair.

Especially when we’re talking platinum blonde.

I hand dry my blondes to about 60–80% dry FIRST. Less time under heat, less pulling and tension on the hair, and way more control when it’s time to smooth and polish that blonde.

It’s a small step, but it makes a BIG difference.

Don’t skip the prep — it makes the finish.

Platinum doesn’t need more heat.
It needs the right technique.

This year I didn’t want to reflect. I didn’t want to analyze the last year or make some profound list of things I’ve learned.

I just wanted to fu***ng have fun.

To quiet the outside noise, step away from the chaos, wander the streets, eat good food, laugh until my face hurt, people-watch, get a little weird and make memories with my favorite person.

There’s a reason I keep finding my way back to New Orleans. There’s just something about this city — the voodoo, the magic, the music, the history, the people, the beautiful chaos.

I love getting lost in it.
I love watching it.
I love being in it.

And maybe that’s what I wanted most out of 45.

Not to figure everything out.
Just to be present enough to actually enjoy the life I’m living.

To laugh more. Wander more. Say yes more. Make the memories while I’m in the middle of them.

And to be free enough to be exactly who the f**k I am.
