your skincare routine isn’t the only thing affecting how your skin ages 👀 some of the everyday habits we don’t think twice about can quietly impact our skin barrier, collagen, inflammation, and overall skin health over time. here are a few i wish more people knew about ↓

poor diet / high sugar intake

• excess sugar can contribute to glycation, a process that can damage collagen and elastin
• frequent blood sugar spikes may also contribute to inflammation
• over time, this can affect firmness, elasticity, and overall skin quality

living in a state of fight or flight

• chronic stress can keep cortisol levels elevated
• this may increase inflammation and interfere with the skin barrier
• stress can also affect sleep, healing, breakouts, and overall skin resilience

over-exfoliating your skin

• too much exfoliation can strip away protective lipids and weaken the skin barrier
• can lead to dryness, redness, sensitivity, and inflammation
• a compromised barrier has a harder time retaining moisture and protecting itself

sleeping with your makeup on

• leaves makeup, oil, sweat, and environmental buildup sitting on the skin overnight
