Each shampoo bar is handcrafted right here in Pahrump using our hand-rendered beef tallow, coconut oil, olive oil, and castor oil.

No mass production. No factory assembly line.

Just good old-fashioned soapmaking, a whole lot of patience, and plenty of love! 🤎

And with the holidays approaching and our new space at The Barn opening November 1st…

Hello, Cottage Friends!

Where do I even begin this week?!

Between making soap, rendering tallow, preparing holiday inventory, and getting our new retail space ready, things around the Cottage have been a little crazy lately.

And somehow, in the middle of all that chaos, we have some HUGE news to share!

First, our new Cottage Designs space at The Barn in Pahrump is officially set up!

The cabinets are in place, the greenery is up, and everything is finally coming together.

I have to give a huge thank-you to Michael and Everett. They spent the weekend helping us move everything, arrange the furniture, and bring our little vision to life. I honestly couldn’t have done it without them!

Now comes the next challenge…

FILLING ALL THOSE SHELVES! 😂

Between The Barn, upcoming craft shows, online orders, and the holiday season, we’ve got a whole lot of handcrafted skincare to make.

And just when I thought things couldn’t get any more exciting…

From Our Little Cottage to Television!
Okay, friends…

COTTAGE DESIGNS IS GOING TO BE ON TV! 🎉

We’re preparing to be featured in TWO segments on The Donna Drake Show, with a CBS television broadcast opportunity!

Yes. TWO!

When Mom and I started making handcrafted tallow skincare right here in Pahrump, Nevada, I don’t think either of us imagined we’d have an opportunity like this.

But here we are!

One segment will introduce viewers to Cottage Designs, share our story, explain how we got started, and showcase some of the handcrafted skincare products we’ve worked so hard to create.

Our second segment will feature something extra special for the holidays…

A holiday stocking feature! 🎄🎁

We’re so excited to have the opportunity to introduce Cottage Designs to a larger audience and share the story behind our family-owned business.

We’re still working out the final details, including when the segments will air, but we’ll share that information as soon as everything is confirmed.

🥩 BEHIND THE COTTAGE
One Render Ends… Another Begins!
If you’ve been following our behind-the-scenes adventures, you already know that rendering tallow is a pretty big part of our lives.

And lately?

It feels like that’s ALL we’re doing! 😂

We’ve been finishing up one batch of rendered tallow while already starting the next.

Before our tallow becomes those beautiful fluffy jars of moisturizer, handcrafted soaps, shampoo bars, and other Cottage favorites, it goes through a careful process of rendering, cleaning, and straining.

Sometimes that means giving it another saltwater spa day to get it exactly where we want it.

We don’t rush that part.

Because the quality of our finished products begins with the quality of our ingredients.

And with The Barn opening soon, holiday craft shows approaching, and our regular inventory needing to be replenished…

Every ounce of finished tallow already has a job waiting for it!

Now, if we could just figure out how to make our workspace magically grow another 500 square feet, we’d be in great shape. 😂

🧼 DID YOU KNOW?
Why Does Handcrafted Soap Need Time to Cure?
Have you ever wondered why we can’t just make a batch of soap today and put it on the shelves tomorrow?

Here’s a little soapmaking education!

Our handcrafted soaps are made using traditional soapmaking methods, combining carefully measured oils and fats with a lye solution.

During a process called saponification, those ingredients transform into soap.

But the work doesn’t stop when we pour everything into the molds.

With cold process soap, the bars need time to finish saponifying and then cure.

With hot process soap, heat helps complete the saponification process during cooking.

But here’s something interesting!

Even hot process soap benefits from curing.

As the bars lose excess water, they become harder, longer-lasting, and generally more pleasant to use.

That’s why we’re always planning our soap production weeks ahead of time.

Right now, we’re busy making fresh batches of Unscented, To***co & Vanilla, Coffee, and other Cottage favorites to help replenish our inventory.

Keeping a Little Rustic Charm at The Barn
When we first started planning our new Cottage Designs space at The Barn, I went back and forth about painting the walls.

Should we brighten everything up?

Should we cover the plywood?

Should we make everything look a little more polished?

And then I thought…

It’s called The Barn for a reason! 😂

So we decided to leave the rustic wood exactly the way it is.

With our cabinets, greenery, and seasonal decorations, the space has that warm, cozy Cottage Designs feeling without losing the character of the building.

Sometimes the best thing you can do is leave something alone.

And honestly?

We’re loving how it turned out!

We can’t wait for you to see it once all those shelves are filled with our handcrafted goodies.

RAIN, RENDERING & A WHOLE LOT OF TALLOW! 🌧️🤎😂

Well, it’s a rainy Sunday here in Pahrump, and apparently Mother Nature decided we’re all staying inside today!

Which honestly works out perfectly because I’ve got approximately 47 things that need to get done. 😂

First up… CLEAN THIS HOUSE!

Because between getting our new space at The Barn ready, figuring out inventory, planning production, ordering supplies and designing signs…

Let’s just say the house hasn’t exactly been my first priority. 😂

And speaking of production…

I HAVEN’T EVEN STARTED YET! 😳

Yep. You read that right.

We’ve been so busy getting everything organized for The Barn that I haven’t made a single new batch of products this week!

But today we’re getting one step closer.

🔥 Finishing up the last render on one batch of tallow.

🔥 Starting the first render on another batch.

🧹 And somewhere in between, attempting to make this house look like actual humans live here. 😂

Because before I can start whipping, pouring and filling all those beautiful little jars…

I NEED MY TALLOW READY! 🤎

And with The Barn opening November 1st, the holiday season approaching and plenty of products to make…

Let’s just say things are about to get VERY interesting around here! 😂

But you know what?

I wouldn’t trade this crazy little handcrafted business for anything.

🌿🏡 WE DID IT!!! Cottage Designs is officially set up at The Barn! 🏡🌿

What started as an empty little space with plywood walls has turned into something I am so incredibly proud of! 💚

This weekend was full of building cabinets, putting together shelves, decorating, figuring out where everything goes, and bringing our little vision to life!

But I absolutely could NOT have done any of this without my two favorite guys, Michael and Everett! ❤️

Michael worked his butt off helping build and put everything together, and Everett was right there with us, keeping us company and being part of the adventure! These two gave up their weekend to help make another one of my dreams a reality, and I couldn’t be more thankful. 🥹❤️

And yes, we kept those rustic plywood walls! After all, it’s called The Barn for a reason! 🤣

The space is officially finished, the greenery is up, the cabinets are ready, and now comes the fun part… FILLING EVERY SINGLE SHELF WITH OUR HANDCRAFTED TALLOW GOODIES! 🧴🌿

We’re getting closer and closer to our November 1st opening, and I cannot wait for everyone to see Cottage Designs in its new little home!
