I’m over here formulating & crafting some of the world’s best tallow & lard skincare - packing orders isn’t quite in my wheelhouse (anymore, anyway- I’ve passed that onto the pros).
As a chef by previous profession (and honestly, by nature) I’ve always been better at creating than organizing. At concocting than efficiency. At being absorbed into assembling an array of ingredients to birth something bigger than the sum of its parts. Locally minded, sustainably focused & chef made, we source many otherwise discarded, food grade ingredients from area restaurants & farms, seeing their value & saving them from waste bins.
Starting with biocompatable grass fed tallow, our bar soaps are gentle enough for the face, yet effective enough to wash away any dirt & grime you may accumulate in your day!
Noncomedogenic & ultra moisturizing, tallow makes the perfect soap for the whole household, no matter how dirty! The fatty acids in tallow are much closer in molecular structure to the oils our own skin produces than more commonly used plant oils & is extremely rich in the same kinds of lipids present in youthful, vibrant skin.
Our soap contain no coconut, olive, jojoba, or other oils! Super muy bien for those with allergies & sensitivities! Viva La Vaca!! 🐮💋🧼

I was a chef prior to starting Vellum Street. I owned Cookie Confidential, a boutique bakery cafe known for using local & organic ingredients before it was something that was as widespread as it is now, as well as some wild ass flavor combinations (Cheesesteak Cookie, anyone? What about Mofongo cupcakes topped with fresh chicharónnes, or Pink Pepper Pistachio Brittle?) I also worked as a private chef, where nutrition & food sustainability were my focus.
I myself had struggled with an auto immune condition, misdiagnosed over the years as Lyme, Hashimotos & MS, but found the right diet could work wonders on reducing symptoms. One of the most persistent symptoms I had was eczema, which I could never seem to fully kick. A few years into opening Cookie Confidential, I discovered the main instigator of the majority of my symptoms was wheat...literally the bread & butter of my bakery! It’s how I made my dough (yes, I ❤️ Dad jokes!).
Prior to making this discovery I had been using old family hillbilly recipes of homemade lard soap & tallow balm to soothe my eczema flares & it amazingly worked better than anything doctors had prescribed over the previous 20 years.
Long story short, after a few years of contending with a wheat allergy while working in a bakery every day, I sold my shop & started Vellum Street...a soap & skincare company that used lard & tallow to make gentle, biocompatable skincare for folks who were struggling to find a solution to their skin issues. As in my work as a chef, nutrition & food sustainability were still important to me. I started to wonder why you would put things on your skin that you would never put into your mouth & strove to formulate products using only food grade ingredients. I also incorporated food sustainability into our business model, sourcing ingredients that would have otherwise gone to waste from local butcher shops, farms, & restaurants.
Over 80% of our ingredients & packaging are sourced locally. All of our glass packaging is post consumer glass (salsa/spice/baby food jars), coming to us via a local non profit Bottle Underground.

Aside from their retro good looks & vibe, there’s a deeper meaning behind the colors chosen for fat marshmallow, and the Vellum Street at large overall look.
Along with representing the 4 directions, each color represents even more, serving as a grounding reminder :
❤️ RED is South- the earth & life itself (blood)
🧡 ORANGE is North- fire, truth & reconciliation
💛 YELLOW is East- the rising sun & bravery
🩵 BLUE is WEST- wisdom, water, sky & peace
Every single detail of everything we do here at Vellum is intentional. Not always in a way that is obvious, but in a way that gives a deep and encompassing meaning and connection to the land we walk upon and the people we walk it with (that means YOU dear reader!).
Vellum Street started as a way to honor what the land gives us, to waste nothing and use every last bit to its full potential- the tallow, lard, herbs, flowers, fruits and more that are available to us, and Vellum Street will continue on that same path for as long as it is here. Trends come and go, but real intention is forever.
